Alarm engine malfunction warning light itemit

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon I have a 2010 fiesta 1.4 petrol titanium just recently I've been having the alarm randomly going off and the last 2 days a warning on the screen which is intimitant if I stop and turn the car off and restart the warning clears.

The car is driving perfectly and no loss of power and everything else working as it should I'm thinking electrical but have heard before this could be the ecu starting to fail any help would be really appreciated

Do you mean the car alarm ? If yes then the probable cause is usually a faulty switch on the bonnet latch.

Is this a separate problem to the car alarm ? What is the warning message ?

It just says engine malfunction  service now.

But when I turn off the car and restart it goes off the car does not go into limp mode and drives spot on.

I have been told that it could also be the Ecu as this is also a common problem on the mk7 but I'm just none the wiser.

Thank you for your reply and help its very appreciated

You need to either take the car to someone who has the equipment to read the codes or get set up with FORScan yourself. Whatever set the Alarm off the last 6 times will be logged.

That is not unusual and sometimes warnings stay until a given number of start/stop cycles, others can be permanent until deleted and others go away at the next start.

Reading the Code before switching off the Engine might be the way forward if the Code has not been logged, and the only way of telling that is to clear all old Codes and read them again after the warning has occurred again.
