No I'm afraid I never managed to fix mine. Had a auto locksmith and auto electrician look at it and both said issue with the ECU or PATS system that would need more investigation than was worth spending on the car. so despite it being completely fine and running well one day, the next it was knackered and ended up being scrapped. crazy. and annoying.

Reading through this thread again, appears you never did get the instrument cluster professionally repaired . Shame the car was scrapped over what could have been a £80 outlay...

Indeed I didn't but only because I have a Mk 1 and both the auto locksmith and the auto electrician confirmed that the IC definitely has no part to play in the working of the Immobiliser on the Mk1 so it wouldn't have helped. Your man you suggested also said thought unlikely to work. Having laid out over £200 on locksmith and electricians services and needing a car that works in a hurry (as couldn't take more time off work while hunting for a fix), I had little choice but to scrap it and use the cash on a new one. If i had the space to get it off road so I could SORN it and stop the insurance I might have been able to keep it knocking about while i continued to play with it but with all advice saying the ECU had failed but the electrician not knowing for sure if it could be fixed, I would have had to take it out, send it to someone then hope it worked on return - then likely another trip for the locksmith to programme the keys back in. That takes time and cash I didn't have, I needed a running motor. and for a car that cost me £500 3 years previously that wasn't an outlay i could cope with. Seems ridiculous I know and it pained me to do it but taxing, insuring and keeping a broken car around in the hope someone might be able to fix it just wan't an option. £250 for scrap was my best bet. Hopefully if it happens to someone else they'll have better luck or at least the time and money to rip out the ECU and see if someone can fix it. How it happened in the first place remains a mystery: fine one day; steel brick the next.
