1.0 L ecoboost automatic Timing belt replacement

Featured Replies

Hi having recently bought a 2015 jap import Fiesta titanium 1.0 L automatic am changing the wet belt etc/ (timing belt)

It's not due replacement for another 30 K mikes but having heard, read, watched horror stories of same I feel preventative maintenance is best.

Question - once changed and maintained properly

( ie oil etc changed more frequently than recommended etc)Have I got a good chance of several years worry free motoring ref wet belt shredding etc?

Or can this occur irrespective of maintaining car properly,

Thank you in advance

Yes you have a good chance of several years of worry free motoring, but this is a very subjective question. Plenty of of other things can go wrong. Just like any other car or machine.

Thank you,I've been driving uber reliable jap hybrids for years and promised my youngest my car if he passed his driving test,

Didn't expect him to pass so quickly 🙄😊

Ended up falling for the little fiesta s jap import,

Looks lovely,

Spotless,keyless etc etc,

Presumed as fiestas are everywhere that I'd be safe enough 🙄🙄

Didn't expect anything ref wet belt shredding etc etc,

Though a bit of consolation came from the fire mechanic who's replacing my belts,

Says all the Ford's with wet belt problems that's he's come across are down to bad maintenance,

Or incorrect oil being used,

Not servicing well before the recommended time etc,

Hope to God he's right.

Yes, I suspect he is.

I'm a member of a couple of Facebook groups practically dedicated to wet belt issues and there are several garages on there who are doing several belt swaps a week and they are reporting a very strong correlation between regular oil changes and long belt life. In cases where the belts have been shredding the owners have often reported not getting their cars services regularly or there are telltale signs this being the case such as high levels of varnishing inside the sump from ageing oil.

In my wife's case, whilst of course a sample size of one so that this as anecdotal, I changed the belt at 10yrs/75k and it was absolutely fine (a tiny amount of presumably belt material inside the oil pickup) and I put that down to changing the oil regularly (every 7k or so miles but I'd be tempted to shorten that further just to be safe).

Gives me consolation tbh

I did mine at 66000 miles  9 years 6 months old and did regular oil and filter changes about every 6-7000. I asked the garage to keep the belts so I could look at them.  Very good condition, in their opinion would have done the full 100000 miles.

There is indeed. It's in the Derbyshire Peak District, lots of lovely walking round there.😀

Dont mention walking and ecoboost plsss

Omens 💪

I changed the wet belts on my 2013 Fiesta in the springtime. I've owned the car since 2017. Its only done 61k and the oil has been changed every year without fail.

The belts which came off were visually in good condition and the oil pick up was perfectly clear, so no concerns for the future.
