AC problem Fiesta mark 5/6 1.3 Duratec

Featured Replies

Hello, we're looking to buy a cheap first car for our daughter and found a clean mark 5/6 Fiesta 1.3 Duratec.  Seller says Aircon working but needs recharged.  From previous experience with a Mini Cooper, I know that this could mean a leak, which I also know can be difficult and time consuming to find.  Can anyone give me a very rough idea what the worst case scenario could be (cost of materials & time) if we had to replace the whole AC system? Thanks very much

Whole air con system is likely to be over £1000.  It means removing the dashboard to reach the evaporator which is a lot of work.

If it does work - as in the compressor kicks in - then there probably isn't a major leak.  If the compressor doesn't kick in, probably best to avoid.  There must be plenty of used Fiestas to choose from.

Good for you to be cynical, when a seller says it 'just needs a recharge', that is never the case. For the sake of £60 odd, they'd have got it recharged themselves. As Tom says, plenty of cars with working A/C, have another look around...
