2009 Mk2.5 1.6 petrol issue with noise on coasting manual

Featured Replies

That gearbox would physically fit but the gear ratios and final drive will most likely be wrong for a 1.6 Focus.  Needs to come from another Focus and ideally another 1.6.  (Will even be different between normal 1.6 and Ti-VCT 1.6).

If the noise has gone then does it still need repairing?

Hi all. Sourced a transmission via breaker link. Ordered Wednesday it arrived today and i fitted it today. Back up and running without issue. Thanks eveyone

  • If you're drving the front wheels off the ground I wonder if the vibration is simply the ABS cutting in. This is only a guess on my part but I imagine the ABS compares the the signals from all the sen

OK understand. Noise is still there when you lift off and in gear. Maybe it will last like it is 🙂

  • 3 weeks later...

Transmission has died today only got 1st and 2nd gear. If anyone knows of one suitable for 1.6 petrol 2009 then please let me know. The car passed it MOT last week was presented couple of weeks early amd now kaput;-)

put your VIN no into:

https://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en

Select Model, then Powertrain, Powertrain Manual Transmission and click on Manual Transmission and Case.  Look for gearbox picture, check the code number on it, look down the list for the same number and the Ford part number should be next to it.  Search ebay for that number for exact match.  If you struggling, PM me the VIN of the car and I'll sort it tonight for you, if noone else does.

I'd look at putting a new clutch plate in while you got it all apart.  Also, new slave cylinder, do not skip the slave cylinder as they usually fail if you reuse them.

Thanks for this

So in the transmission I get B5/IB5 code is 7002 so looks like also something off a VCT equipped car will fit. Will send Vin as what I have found on Ebay seems a different codes will send a PM over thanks very much

7002 isn't a specific code.  I've seen it on many Ford gearboxes, not just IB5.

For example - first one I pulled online.  Obviously completely different to IB5.  I think 7002 may simply mean 'gearbox'.

How confusing yes 7002 seems like is just a gearbox 😉

Car is back home. Cannot select any gears apart from 1st and 2nd even without engine. If attempt to get into any other gear you are met with massive resistance. IIRC there is a plastic cover that covers the linkage on the transmission. If I was to remove the cover and undo the circuit should I be able to move the linkage by hand thus ruling out any cable/gear selector issue?

It does sound to me like a gearbox failure. Removing the cover and trying to select a gear by hand is worth a try but I think it maybe to hard to move even on a fully working gearbox. Perhaps @DaveT70 will have some ideas?

It sounds shot.

Its the prefix (before) and the suffix (after) the part number that must also match, if you're searching for a replacement.

Ok car is 3M5R 7002 NF one on ebay thats come up as an offer is 3M5R 7002 ND so close :-\ Got another call from a breakers up north that have a very low mileage one and they said not to worry about the code as it will be different as is later car. Guess casting will be the same but maybe different code due to maybe one bush or something be provided by a different supplier. Hopefully works out ok.

You can go higher than the "F" but not lower, everything else MUST be the same

Here's the part number but you've probably worked that out by now: 2014507

Urgent one, anyone know the part number for the driveshaft seal at the gearbox for the righthand side ie the one with the centre bearing. It is leaking knew I should have changed it the shorter one is OK as the gearbox came with the carrier for the driveshaft still in so wasn't disturbed.

Both sides the same size - 55mm.

But there are two part numbers.

1096669 up to 2011

1805715 from 2011 onwards

Thought I had a match on Amazon for next day delivery but now can't find it. Euro carparts seems to say different depending on side.

@TomsFocus think euro have Corteco differential oil seal front outlet  product code 661590010 for transmission code b5,ib5 55mm. Euros is open tomorrow by me.

Found it in the corteco pdf with fitting position both side as you say:-) swirl type is alternating twist so assume this is the twist to keep the oil where we want it as per a normal garter seal. Also it lists it as OE reference to both the part numbers you mentioned 😉

All sorted 8quid from euros now dry as a bone 😉

Update time when I changed the driveshaft seals was not impressed with the sparkles in the oil 😞

And also it is clicking badly and has judder. This video is not how you would drive it with lifting and dipping the clutch. However when driving normally you do hear the click just on gear change. Any ideas?

Is the general consensus this is cattled? Obviously sparkles in the oil is no no but what about the jerkyness? One other interesting thing was that the replacement transmission was supposed to be under 70k miles and a late model 2011 on fitting the gear selector arrangement appeared to be different and like what I have seen on am earlier model. It fitted OK but was just an observation. The warranty sticker was put over the factory sticker so cannot tell if indeed it is a late model without voiding my warranty.

Yes as long as yours is a 1.6 as well.  However these have been superceded a few times now, and recently we've seen a few issues with these seals not fitting properly on Fiestas with the same gearbox.  They should all be 55mm so I'm not sure why some fit better than others.
