Horn very sensitive after airbag removal Fiesta mk7.5

Featured Replies

I have just retrofit cruise control on my 2014 Fiesta (MK7.5) which required removing steering wheel airbag module. After fitting the horn suddenly became very sensitive to the point of going off when breaking and at random times. What could be the potential cause?

Thanks in advanced

One of the springs has come off the back of the airbag, or it's not fully latched into the steering wheel

Is there a technique to it? How would I make sure it’s seated properly

cheers

Pop the airbag out again so you can look at the springs on the back.  There are 3 springs (2 top, 1 bottom) and I suspect one hasn't seated back into the wheel properly.

They should snap back into place.

Never took a Ford one off only JLR

I always disconnect the battery, one because you should, two to stop the horn screaming at you when you're trying to re-seat

Ok thank you I’ll give that a go. The bottom spring seems removable does it need to be clicked in before going in

Yes.  It has flat parts as well, so needs to be in the correct orientation to fit the hole in the wheel perfectly.

After a few attempts at reseating the airbag assembly it seems to keep happening. Now when I just recconnect the battery it’ll start honking. Do you have any advice? I think the culprit is the bottom gold contact

The bottom spring assembly is broken.  That's why it won't reseat.  It should look the same as the top two.

Found the other piece it must’ve come off. Still happening but will give it a few more goes to make sure it is seated. I don’t remember but does the bottom of the horn need to be able to move in and out. Just for reference
