fiesta diesel

Featured Replies

is the fiesta diesel engine a good one.(2018 onwards.)i read all the horror stories about the 1 litre ecoboost so i am thinking about diesel.any advice would be great.thank you.rob.

They're definitely more reliable than the 1.0 EcoBoost.

But not entirely without fault.  We've seen a few cam chains snap on them.  (Design flaw, same as Peugeot BlueHDi)

They seem to leak diesel from the low pressure pipework more than the previous diesel did.  And they do have an electric tank pump, which occasionally fails.  But other than that they're pretty good.

Oil needs to be changed more regularly than the petrol engines.  And they do have a DPF so not good for very low mileage use.

No.  Early 2018 model (Mk8) Fiestas still had the same old wetbelt engine.  Some got the newer engine around 2020, but even that still has a wetbelt for the oil pump, and we are seeing an increasing number of problems with that belt on the later engine now.

As particulate filters have been referenced, worth mentioning that the ecoboost got GPF from early in 2019:

To be picky... isn't it from Sept 2018 (when Euro 6c was phased in, or Euro 6.2 in Ford-speak, on the sticker inside driver's door)?

& to Robert  - I have a 2018 Fiesta diesel. I'd confirm everything Tom said, especially about needing more frequent oil changes. The 118bhp version pulls hard and is frugal if driven fairly gently  - I imagine the 84bhp is still more economical but I've not driven one.

Pick away!😀 I think the penny had only just dropped regarding DPF at the time of the old thread I linked.

Possibly came in even earlier - my March 2018 didn't have it (and was quoted as Euro 6 in the price lists), but by the May 2018 price list, emissions stage was shown as 6.2.
