How bad is the damage?

Featured Replies

I own a 2008 1.3 vtec mk5 Fiesta 5 door.

Just had it in for the NCT and it failed on a few things.
Now I know I won't get specific numbers but is anyone in Ireland able to tell me what sort of total payment for work and replacements is going to cost for the list below?
Its never a good time finally for a car to require work and I need to have some idea of what this is going to cost me.

You need two track rod ends, a tyre, two rear shock absorbers and some brake pipes, shouldn't cost that much.

The shocks and track rod ends are a simple DIY job, so just have the brake pipes done at a garage.

Oh, and your Fiesta is a MK6.5

And it's probably a 1.25.  And it's definitely not VTEC.

And the layout of that failure sheet is horrendous!

Thanks for the information, that helps a lot. Called a few places and averaged around 700/ 750 euros for the fixes. So now I'm trying to find a way to reduce it, But wasn't sure how difficult it would be to do some of the labour myself, the Dust cover I knew I could source from another one from the scrap yard but the rest I wasn't sure and so didn't want to mess around. But if those tasks you listed are doable at home then I will check it out, or at least check the parts online to buy and save money.

Oh yeah, I miss-typed that,
So from the Logbook, it reads:
2008
FORD FIESTA STEEL 2 1.25 5DR Zetec (not Vtec)
Petrol
55KW

So from what I was told
The Dust cover on the front offside
The track rod ends on the front near-side
Break lines for both sides front & offside rear
Tyer needs replacing which I was aware of and then alignment work
And only the rear near-side shock is the issue

The new track rod ends come with new dust covers.  Replace both sides together as you'd have to have alignment done again if the other one breaks in a few months time.

Rigid brake pipes can't be bought pre formed.  They need to be replaced with copper pipes which will need to be flared correctly.  System will then need to bled through fully.  Probably best left to a garage though I did mine on a driveway a few years ago.

I've had worse... 🤣

Though this week, failed on a tire, and 2 x steering rack gaiters, so a bit of a result!

As @TomsFocus says, change both track rod ends and change both rear shocks too
