We used Think Ford in Farnborough to replace ours just under a year ago after it failed. Charged us 2k and the light came back on when it was driven away from the dealer. They’d over tightened the belt and had to strip it down and re do it. 10 months later the light is back on and they diagnosed cam belt issues. Once we pointed out the work they’d already done and the checked the service notes they changed the diagnosis to cam shaft and want 2k to fix that.

I’d be very wary of assuming Ford dealers actually know what they’re doing.

Hi Ray, I appreciate what you say but do you know why it's not considered important to change this belt? You're obviously a man of some experience, I'd be glad to hear your thoughts. By the way the cam belt hasn't been chaged yet, it would be done at the same time.

If the cambelt is going to be replaced that makes more sense. Yes, there would be more expense (because ideally the sump needs to be removed at the same time) but at least you would have peace of mind. If the sump is removed, that also gives the possibility to properly inspect and clean the oil pump strainer which as you know is a serious problem area for the 1.0

My personal experience with the oil pump belt is that mine showed no serious issue (at 70k plus) although there were clear signs of possible problems ahead (see actual photos). Visually, the materials and design are different to the cambelt. I have seen odd reports of failure on-line but nowhere near the instances of cambelt degradation/oil system failure. Of course I fitted a new oil pump belt anyway because I had access to do so.

Nb. For those who may have been confused by my comment about needing similar op's to replace the oil pump belt as the cambelt. The oil pump belt is located BEHIND the cambelt on the end of the crankshaft. It's not possible to pass the oil pump belt past the cambelt. That being so, one needs to remove the cambelt to replace it - hence needing all the other operations to replace the cambelt!

It seems odd that there appears to be no official Ford recommendation to change the oil pump belt on the original 1.0 ecoboost, when there is on the revised (chain cam drive) version - 10 years/150k miles.

Service sheets working again now.  Oil pump belt is recommended on wetbelt engines on the Mk7.5 Fiesta.

My Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost will be due for its cam belt change next year. I'm quite aware that it's an expensive job, but what worries me is whether the dealerships or independent garages are up to doing the work correctly. Having the special tools etc. at their disposal doesn't unfortunately ensure good workmanship. Does anyone have any experience of having this work carried out successfully or otherwise?

General consensus is that FJRS (fjrs.co.uk) are really a top tier garage. I’m moving away from Ford dealers and going to take my business there. A genuine and passionate group of guys that offer wet belt related services.
