Focus Titanium Mk2.5 (2010) - Bluetooth unit?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Another question as a new focus owner. As above i have a 2010 Mk2.5 Titanium. The current Sony headunit has DAB but does not appear to have Bluetooth (mutes when pressing green phone button). Same as one below.

FORD FOCUS TITANIUM MK2 HATCH 5DR 2005-2011 CD HEAD UNIT 8M5T-18C939-LE - Picture 1 of 6

Is this an easy retro fit, can i take a headunit from another Mk2.5?  Which one should i be looking for?

or should i be looking at aftermarket if im going to go down that route to update things a bit?

Thanks

The Bluetooth module is a separate box that plugs into the headunit via a short wiring loom.  It should be compatible with all of these 'round' Sony units as far as I remember.

You can only use it for phone though.  So if you want music playback you'll need to go for an aftermarket headunit.

2010 BT with that radio would have the later better system that can stream music too

go hunt to see if its got the wiring loom - if you have the good loom with more pins - then its easy to retrofit just the box

Brilliant i'll have a look today, any idea what bluetooth module i would need? Notice the post mentions module 8M5T-19C112-AT

I was just reading something I posted (that I found on another forum) - stating the bit that gave the music streaming, the bit that was of interest...

Quote

Cars without the advanced Sound&Connect package only have this simple Bluetooth-module - these modules have 19G448 as their middle part number.
The later more advanced modules with 19C112 or 14D202 can also be used as music-player using the A2DP standard (music stream over bluetooth) and can also use a USB-stick to play MP3 music files from it.

I guess !!! 19G448 uses the smaller multiplug for the BT module

the one you mention above is definitely for the larger 54 pin BVC multiplug socket (lots of extra pins), the last element of the number in your post was -AT this is a rolling code signifying the tech spec... After -AN they came with a real USB sized socket that actually worked... much earlier units say an -AK had an odd small USB that only allowed updates to be pushed at the unit....

these days it might be better to go aftermarket for the whole headunit - although sound from the SONY DAB unit is pretty decent and if you already have the decent wiring in the car you could have a play

here is more info on the pinouts for the later unit

Is this what im looking for? does it give any indication as to what bluetooth module i would need?

Had a quick look for a microphone but isn't directly above the mic hole (if at all)

the cable / loom if fitted is left of the glove box (remove the bucket to look) and is taped back to another bit of loom hidden by sound deadening stuff..

the unit is one of these (good price too !) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126680009106?

this one 🙂

well you have a loom which is great - but which one - the early phone only or the later better with Audio too - the wires and the real pin bush housing slides out the side of that big plug with its lever fastening...   then you can see the pin numbering moulded at the ends of the plastic block

double check if the wires correspond to the better loom... pin 37 38 etc.   and the mic likely isn't connected overhead, so you'd need to sort that

I counted the pins on your picture - its a 54 pin 18 per side ... double check pins 37 and 38 are used - then buy the bit or similar on that link to ebay - you need to get at it using EMLconfig (free russian diagnostics tool) and a decent dongle cable (buy a good one - vgate wired with Ford 18v FEPS - cheap £40 these days) then you get at the unit and write your VIN to the secondhand module, and tweak another module to let the can signals go round and it comes to life

all in that last link in post above where I made the entire loom and retrofitted it all to her's using the same radio you have...

then the last BT module update - (do it after getting it up and running) but NOTE it pushes the connection to the new world - where the phone finds the car (rather than the old way in the owners manual)

Update: Sound & Connect (November 2012) Updates the firmware of the Sound & Connect module to the latest published version (November 2012). – Improved power management in conjunction with USB and Bluetooth devices Unzip the archive to a USB stick in the main directory. Recommendation: Perform the update while the engine is running.

That's brilliant mate many thanks! Loads of good info there, i've bought the module for now and will check the pins tonight to see if they are in use or not.

Can't seem to locate any USB ports for the unit, (Strange i as i thought a 2010 would have usb ports in the armrest or glove box.

the usb lead plugs in the module- they won't have fitted it unless it came working as part of the car

ah ok, i did a quick google on other ones with a lead as below (but different model) Will the unit i bought above come with this lead/USB? or is it a separate item i'll need to get?

Ford Focus Mk3 2011-15 Bluetooth Control Module with USB AUX Ports 8M5T19C112AR

only if the advert said it would

I had a quick look but didn't spot one - i can't remember what the plug on the unit is - there's a few other leads that might be suitable - some sitting in the spare locations where heated seat and ESP switches sits

u need to check this might be one... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256541875016?

My 2010 Focus came with the USB socket in the centre console cubby bin - for some reason I got a spare cable that that runs up to the dash and it’s just a Ford version of a USB-A male to female cable with a few extra clips. Still got it but it’s buried in a spares box somewhere.

Can’t remember where it connected behind the dash but probably went to the BT module.

You can also get switch blanks that fit alongside the ESP button etc which have a USB socket built in, would just need to wire the cable to this

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006508069118.html

guys when copying ANY link on ebay - the spyware crap is everything after the first question mark

my link was the same product you found - but without 17 million other characters telling everyone in the world whats going on afterwards - that part has the correct clip to lock it in the module, so it doesn't fall out over the bumps....  but yes its missing the pretty bit to clip in your trim

I did see some fake Chinese tat that are pretty at the user end but missing the correct ford fitting to keep it locked in the hidden module - and they didn't look very long

did it occur to you - USB doesn't add much

the whole point is BT phone and BT music - not more wires tangling up the gear lever

yeah keen to do this with as little an amount of cabling as possible, i guess the USB for the bluetooth module firmware upgrade is required but beyond that if all working i'd just use bluetooth. It was more for charging devices but i can use the 12v power outlet for that

USB sticks are tiny nowadays.  If you want a storage source rather than a streaming source, they are still the best idea.

So i did a check for the cable and can see the Grey/White Purple/White cables (unsure which pin this is) which seems to all be fine!

Connected up and can connect to bluetooth but no sound in either audio or phone call (obvious don't have a mic as yet) - i'm guessing this is where the EMLconfig  & vgate wired with Ford 18v FEPS will be required?

The cable to do the bluetooth module update is on its way.

exactly - I plugged hers in to do the update, unplugged it and it has never been near the car in the last 4 years

you have to put your chassis number inside the unit (info tab) and turn the feature on (config tab)

Downloaded the latest EML but get the error attached when trying to run? - AH got it, run as admin 🙂

Throbber - I'm late to this party!
I'm in Stirling. My last mk 2.5 Titanium came without Bluetooth, so I retrofitted.

There was definitely a lot more cables with some convoluted routing compared to my mk2 😮
Anyhow - bottom line. I bought the USB/aux panel from inside console cubby box (didn't get round to installing it, my car had all the wiring under the dash for it, but I'm pretty sure there was a small jumper loom needed too)

If it's any use to you, you can have it for the postage. (I bought it on ebay for £25, but it's lying here doing nothing. Current mk3 already has one)

drop me a pm .
