Ford Focus ST (2010 model) DAB Amplifiier location...

Featured Replies

Hi All,

After some fault finding (and swearing), I think I have an issue with my DAB amplifier shorting out.  When I disconnect the Fakra connector from the back of the Sony head unit, the device is fine, plays CDs, radio, Bluetooth, etc but when I reconntect the Fakra connector, the radio is flashing on and off all the time.  Does my car have a DAB amplifier and if so....where have Ford hidden it?

Photo attached shows the connector in blue circle.

Many thanks.

Dave.

Yes it will have an aerial amplifier/isolator unit. Usually located in the top edge of the tailgate. The inside trim along the top of the tailgate just pulls off. You should find two amp/iso units one for FM and the other DAB.

Does the fakra connector not just go to the base of the roof antenna?

no clues on the wiring schematics, can’t actually find the roof antenna either tbh

Popped the trim off but no amplifiers... 😞

I think it’s all part of the antenna base.

Think if you drop down the overhead panel in the headliner where the reading lights and voice microphone live you can see the underneath of the antenna base. If you disconnect the cable going to it, poss held on with a nut, then try reconnecting the fakra cable and see if the radio behaves. That’ll help rule out if it’s the antenna base or not.

It does indeed seem on your model that the amp/iso is not fitted in the tailgate. As @troy45 suggests it could be part of the roof mounted aerial as your car would be one of the earlier ones to be equipped with DAB.
