Yaw rate sensor

Featured Replies

Please is there anyone out there with any information on the location of the yaw rate sensor of my 2011 ford s-max 2.0 tdci

I don't know on the S-Max specifically.  But they are usually mounted between the front seats under the handbrake area.

I have stripped the centre console, removed both front seats and trim from b pillar as advised in haynes manual, still cant find it

Did you find any modules at all?  Should look like this I think.  Though the parts catalogue only lists it up to 2010 oddly.  Perhaps it was integrated into another module after that.

It might be under the dash, but will still be on the "Transmission tunnel"

That's weird they're normally smack bang in the centre of the car

Stripped centre console out and removed gear stick aswell, still cant be seen. Only thing under gear stick is the restraint control module, any way it could be built into that ?

Haynes manuals are often wrong for modern cars.  I wouldn't put too much trust in that.

Though I am surprised it still can't be seen with both seats and centre console removed.

There is only a limited amount of space inside the car so it can't be far if it is still a separate part.  I don't think it'll be built into the SRS module.  It could be built into the ABS module.

Have you got a fault code for the yaw sensor?  If so, which module was the fault showing in?

If you're using Forscan, check which module the code comes from.  If it's just a generic OBD reader then it may not show the modules separately.

It was just a generic obd reader, i can remember it said it was the yaw rate sensor but i cannot remember the code it gave. All this has happenend from having to replace the clutch, was all fine before doing that. 1st had to replace steering angle sensor and now it gives display message of power steering malfunction, esp light on aswell and occasionaly get engine malfunction. Only thing odb picks up is the yaw sensor. Even had it plugged into a mates snap on diagnostics which shows no other faults

Ah, you need Forscan tbh.  Even paying thousands for a Snap-On scanner doesn't mean it'll read all of the Ford specific fault codes.

The yaw sensor fault could be a red herring.  And there may be others that would only show in Forscan.

You can also calibrate the steering angle sensor using Forscan if that wasn't done when fitted.

According to my mates snap on obd reader, the steering angle sensor is calibrated to correct posistion

That's good.  But I would still recommend Forscan to check for Ford specific fault codes.

As it started after a clutch change, I would not be surprised if a wire got damaged around the ABS module for example.

Would there be a need for a yaw sensor on a car in Wales? 20mph doesn't create much roll 🤣

Depends which side the sheeps sat.

Well done , you get the prize for guessing later vehicles haven't got a separate yaw rate sensor.

And sounds like someone put the steering column back on the rack in the wrong position therefore snapping the clockspring/steering angle sensor when turning the steering wheel maybe??? 🤔🤔🤔

If that is the case, then why is ford dealership(s) quoting me a figure of between 200 and 600 for the yaw sensor (just the sensor on its own)

You had better ask them if you can't find it?

Having worked in ford garages for 21 years now, I can tell you I don't trust what a ford parts person tells you or rely on fords parts microcat or equivalent they use now to reliably decide what part is right for the  cars involved.

Previous to 2010 it was a separate unit under drivers seat. After that it was integrated into the ABS module

Removed abs module from car and took it to abs specialist, according to them, there is no yaw sensor built into it and the module itself passed all their tests. Any other places the yaw sensor could be located ?
