Come back to my car and one of the side lights were on

Featured Replies

Hey all,

So yesterday I come back to my 2021 MK4 Focus and my left side light and rear lights were on. The car was locked and there were no lights on in the cabin. I plugged in to check for any codes and there were none. The app didn't ping to tell me that the alarm went off or anything.

its really strange! not too sure what to make of it as the car started and drove fine with no messages.

any advice?

P.S i had not unlocked the car so it wasn't the welcome lights.

I'm not sure if you're aware but you're coming across as a bit of a tool.

Which bit? 😂

Martin, not that odd, my 1976 Ford Capri had the same function, I believe it coincided with the end of UK production and when all Capris were built in Gemany ?

Ignition on, the relevant indicator on, ignition off, relevant sidelight on.  Parking lights used to be compulsory back then under certain conditions, and you could buy an accessory that you could clip to the relevant window and plug into the cigarette lighter (Cigar lighter in the Ghias!) socket.

Now, does that qualify you too as a bit of a tool? 😁

I think him & I just got on the wrong foot, hopefully he'll be back so I can show him I do have good intentions, just often a weird sense of humour...

Actually yes, the very definition of, 'a tool' 😂

Keir Rodney Starmer (You Plonker!) was born on 2 September 1962, in Southwark, London. He grew up in the town of Oxted, Surrey. He was the second of the four children of Josephine (née Baker), a nurse, and Rodney Starmer, a toolmaker. One of his early tools was named Keir.

Can't remember the first of my cars which had it, certainly been around a long time.

There seemed to be great emphasis on the correct use of parking lights when I learned to drive, no-one seems to bother much nowadays.

It is still required in certain situations though:

Even Keir himself is proud of telling us that his very own dad, was a 'tool' maker 😁

I don't remember being taught to use parking lights at all.  More emphasis was put on just parking safely & considerately in the first place.

I did have a chuckle at this line in the Ford manual recently.  Makes them pretty much useless!

Note:   Parking lamps may turn off automatically. This prevents the vehicle battery from running out of charge.

Is that parking lights  in particular or Ford in general?😀

At risk of turning this into a Keir thread. I did see a good one this morning though - he should have heeded the warning from Dion:

"A-keep away from-a Runaround Sue, yeah"

My dad had a 1975 Cortina Mk3 (N reg) that had them.

On a point of order @DaveT70, since you're a BMW driver are you qualified to answer questions on the operation of the indicator stalk ? 🤣

Being a previous  long standing Ford owner, I actually use my indicators!

You should see the looks I get😬
