Cluster screen doesn’t dim with lights on – Focus MK2.5

Featured Replies

I have now bought an 'upgraded' switch with dimmer control, but before fitting, I note that there are a couple of differences in that the 'new' one has a duplicate dipped beam logo on it, and another logo has 2 x down arrows as opposed to the single on the original switch. The rotary knob doesn't actually turn to the green circled logo - what is it for?

Put your specs on, that's a fog light symbol, not a dipped beam symbol.

1x pull for front fog lights.  2x pulls for rear fog lights.  The other switch functions may still work without front fog lights installed.

LOL, that explains the double arrow, I don't have front fog lights so never dawned on me the reason for the double arrow. What is the logo on the RHS circled then?

another glasses trick

its showing right side front fogs one pull

two pulls is for the rear fogs - where you get both front and rear

the symbols are different front shows beam is pointing down as to not dazzle using the front ones and illuminate the road under the layer of fog for going really slow when its really foggy (which is what they are there for) - and ultimately should allow you to turn OFF dipped beam, as that just reflects a solid white wall and you can't see anything - front and rear fog lights are REALLY only meant for when visibility is under 30 foot

there ought to be training to say if you can see where you are going with dipped beam on - its not foggy, so turn off the ----ing rear fog light - you are just making it dangerous for everyone on the road you stupid moron....  making these mandatory was probably the most stupid road safety initiative ever (but I guess that was the point - keep them crashing and we can reduce speed limits more and more till ultimately we have the slaves locked up paying for Netflix)

in 50 years - only once was it so foggy I put them on - and it didn't help it - was so bad in 35 miles there wasn't a single other road user, added 90 mins to normal trip time - at times I couldn't see at 10 mph

After some consideration, I feel this switch will now live out it's life in my 'man drawer'. It goes against my OCD in that everything in a car should work, and to have some functionality in that switch that my car doesn't even have would grate on me. Still, at least I got it out of my system. Anyone want to buy a Mk2 light switch? 🤣

I've just noticed front fogs on your avatar.  Are they wired in to an aftermarket switch?

I fitted factory front fog lights from a scrap Mk2 to my LX.

The plugs were already there on the LX wiring loom, but taped up out of the way.

The light switch with the front fog setting was a straight swap. The lights worked exactly as they should after fitting. The indicator lamp on the dashboard was also present and works as normal.

the rheostat for the instrument brightness should be mandatory - you can wind down the brightness 50% and actually see outside the car at night

I would 100% have it in the car rather than a drawer

my only concern, are we really saying all models got the headlamp height adjuster.... I'd think that might throw a curve ball at cars / mkts that never had it

Your car has a drawer? 😀

All models with halogens did in the UK.

Those with Xenon's have auto-levelling so no dash switch.
