Hi can someone point me on how to check the matching VIN tag, AVO build tag, and strut-top stamp with the log book. i’m buying a Mk1 Mexico and don’t really know how to check this my dream car and want to make sure it’s genuine.

I would suggest that you ask the AVO Owners Club

This might be some help:

Yes, be very wary.

If the VIN tag has never been removed, which I doubt, the rivets will NOT overhang the plate

The "AVO" tag is the body tag, body number, HOD, number of doors, shell spec etc, AVOOC will help you decode that.

VIN number should be stamped/engraved onto the RH (when looked from steering wheel) front suspension turret, but most of those have gone. AVOOC should help you ensure the stamp is genuine

Engine number should be the last two letters and then the numbers of the VIN

Absolutely get someone to check it out for you.

If it's genuine, the AVOOC should know the car anyway👍
