Engine trouble

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2009 ford galaxy 2.2 tdci has developed a fault, engine starts fine and idles, but won't rev above 1500rpm, also stutters on reving, got codes po2e8, po2e4 and po2e5, from my home work this is from the air intake temperature sensor! Does anyone know where this sensor is located on the engine? Thanks. 1,Ford,GALAXYS-Max,2009,WF0MXXGBWM9M54812,979869007113,1742990508,.pdf

Those codes are for the throttle body.

Can the throttle body be dismantled and cleaned (providing nothing else is wrong), does it need resetting when that is done?

Looking at those codes it's either unplugged or broken.  I don't think it's worth cleaning.  I'd just buy a good used replacement from eBay to swap on.  If the same codes come up again then it'll need an auto-electrician to do wiring checks.

This has given me a little more knowledge:

That is the intake air temp sensor.  But those codes aren't suggesting that to be the fault.  They are suggesting the throttle body to be at fault.  (Part number 1566190).

On this engine, that sensor is also bolted to the side of the throttle body.  You can see the two holes here, larger one for sensor, smaller one for bolt.

It was the flap in the throttle body jammed, not fully closed, managed to free the flap and give it a good clean - it seems to be fine now👍

So inspecting and cleaning MAY be an option (always worth a try - how dirty was it?)

Would be interested to know if it is a long term fix so please post back if it fails again?

Should the throttle be fully closed when the engine is off?

Only for a few seconds, then it should open and close quickly a few times to shake off any crud, then fully open awaiting the next start.

Now back to getting code P02E8, Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit Low. Replaced sensor and wiring, still getting the code?

Replaced sensor and wiring,

Unsure how this could be done without the whole loom being replaced unless the individual wires were removed and replaced from sensor to ECU and I don't know the location or ability to replace the sensor separately (photos?)
Was the original wiring load tested from the sensor plug to the ECU plug (and was the terminal drag OK at both ends) as that would have been my first attempt at a solution plus, if possible, move the flap and see if the position was reflected by Forscan PID, showing that the ECU is getting the correct signal (unless, as usual, I'm missing the point?)
