Hi all , I've a 1983 mk5 cortina,  there is a whirring noise that has appeared but disapears when I put my foot on the clutch, even barely touch the pedal it dissapears.  I'm wondering is it a failing thrust bearing? And how long, if so ,before it fails completely?

    Probably, or if it's been converted to Type 9 5 speed in the past then it could also be the input shaft bearings

    Thanks, it's a standard 4 speed

    Just bear in mind, Type-N four speed, with no external linkage, is basically the same as a Type-9, so still check for input shaft bearing wear.

    But it's probably just the release
