Stop start causing problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m going to give a bit of back story so I’m sorry if it’s a long read, but I want to hear if this has happened to anyone else.

on Tuesday, my car didn’t start before work and I had to get someone to jump me. After work it started up fine everytine I drove it. Leading to this was no lights on the dash board to say the battery was going and no lights after. I went to Halfords for a free battery life check and they said it needed replacing.

Today (Friday) I got the battery replaced at Arnold Clark where I bought the car into January. Since I’d had the car I had noticed that my stop start hadn’t worked, and after some research I found out that it was because my battery was on its way out.

since I had the battery replaced this after noon I noticed the start stop still didn’t work, so just accepted that it might just not work on my car.

on my way into my night shift this evening I was driving to the petrol station to fill my car up, and I went to change gear and my gear wouldn’t come all the way up. I instantly thought my clutch had gone and maybe something had been knocked when they were fitting my battery at AC.
pulled over with my hazards on and went to call my mum as she doesn’t live far from where I was and could use the moral support. So I went into neutral and put the handbrake on, and that’s when I head the engine start up sound, even though I hadn’t turned my car off. Lo and behold I finally see the stop start light come on in the centre of my dashboard to see that stop start was active.

so I drive off to test it’s definitely not my clutch and everyone works completely fine again! When I got to work after filling my car up I drove around the car park and tested out the stop start and have worked out when it will activate. I’m not going to have it on since it’s traumatised before I’ve even willingly used it.

but my question is, has anyone else had anything like this happen? My clutch isn’t the issue because it’s been completely fine since I originally pulled over.

Repost in the correct model forum.

The General Chat forum is ONLY for threads which DO NOT fit any other category. If your thread is anything do to with a specific model, it should go in the relevant model club section

Posting in General Chat thread.

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums.

Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member.

There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one.

If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance.

The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.
