Rear window camera wiring help.

Featured Replies

When I fitted my Nextbase rear window camera to my 20 plate Focus, I managed to undo the rubber boot on the left, feed the wire from under the roof lining, through the boot to behind the plastic panel at the top of the photo and connect it to my camera. My 23 plate seems to be different as no amount of gentle persuasion will remove one end or the other of those boots. Anyone managed to do this without breaking the plastic clips?

They have plastic latches going into the body. 2 on the sides and one top & bottom, I think

Stick a thin blade or prodder or similar in between the rubber and the body and pop them

That is ok on the side that you can see, but there is not enough space at the back to even get a finger in there. I wondered if anyone knows of a tool that Ford use to undo them.

Yes. 👍

Hello Pater, the way to do it is to pull the rubber edge out from under the plastic frame (which you can't see). Just tease the rubber boot out all the way around until it is completely free from the plastic frame and the car.

Once the rubber boot if free of the frame then it is a very simple matter to release the plastic clip from the car and then refit the boot over the plastic frame.

Thanks to @unofix I succeeded in doing this. Here are a few photos. Once the rubber boot is free of the plastic mount, pressing in the two end clips and the front clip releases the plastic mount from the body. Connect the rubber boot to the plastic mount after feeding the rear window camera lead through the boot. Success!

So pleased it worked out for you Pater.

I wasn't sure that my instructions were clear enough, but those photos are excellent and will help others in the future 👍

In my photos above, I only show one end of the rubber conduit detached from the body. It makes the job much easier if both ends are detached. The method of removal and refitting is the same for both ends.
