Focus door hinge

Featured Replies

Hi guys

My focus MK2 for passenger's door hinge bolt broke in two halves and the hinge is ok tho. I got spare bolt from fords for 3 quid. The half that broke inside the passengers wing side how the hell can I get that half out.  I tried a dremal to make a slot and turn it with screwdriver that made things worse as it's got further back into the wing.

Every time u open the passenger you door you got hold it tight I'm hoping not for windy day.

Cheers guys

Don't know how you access the broken hole bit on the right

Weld nut has detached from body

Good luck😬

Probably better off, with the age of the car, removing the check arm completely and manage the door opening yourself when you have a passenger

Yeah that's what I have been doing telling passengers door broken and holding it when they have shopping.

Oh thread on right is welded on, I thought just was like a bolted on from rear part. I got wheel lining out and the gloves box.

I'm thinking about getting the left bracket welded just on to the hole area or I see u can buy them butterfly bolt thing which spring open inside.

Cheers guys

You are no doubt correct, though my OCD couldn't cope with that, I'd have to find a way to properly fix it! 😁

You won't get into that panel.

Yes you could weld on a 2nd hand check arm, I wouldn't risk welding that one, if it's been stressed it will break, then you have to get it off

The proper fix for that would be cutting a square hole in the pillar.  Welding the nut back on.  Then welding the square back in.

Finding a bodge is the more realistic option.  You can buy universal soft material check straps online.  Usually used for van doors but as long as you get the right length should work for a car as well.  Just need a couple of self-tapping screws each side.

You can't, not without cutting holes in the bodywork.

I'd drill the hole out using a 10mm drill bit, and then fit a 'nutsert' or 'rivnut' (other brands are available)

Thanks to everyone.

Where do I get the bits from to fix it.

I would leave it but someone will not hold the door and it fly off

Just use Google

If you take it to a decent body shop, they will install a rivnut for you so you can bolt the check strap back to the body.
Good suggestion @TomsFocus, I never thought of that👍

Not my suggestion, but thanks anyway.

In the picture it looks like the nut is still partially there.  That'll have to be fully broken off to fit a nutsert and will rattle at the bottom forever.  That is probably the cheapest option though.

Funny, when my 'checkstrap' broke I suggested that from the factory, they should be held on external fittings rather than the way they do it LOL

Went to a body work shop they said to do it properly would cost around 600 pound.

Does anyone know the thread size on bolt. Looking at them nutsert things

M6 I believe

Drill out A-Post, insert an M6 rivnut, fit bolt

It's just getting the rivnut properly installed you'll need help with, unless you buy a manual hand tool

Couldn't believe the price of the garage 600 quid.

Here bit better pic

What u think

The whole hole from side to side is 14mm, not measuring the broken lip thing

As u can see it's bent down inside and don't think a rivnut/nutsert going to grip.

I looked at these things but not sure
