1.5 ecoblue feels lazy at 50mph in the 5t gear

Featured Replies

Hi all, befire i owned a 2015 Ford Focus 1.5 tdci Titanium model. I was very satisfied with it and after 5 years and a lot of miles in the car I decided to buy a 2019 Ford Focus 1.5 tdci Titanium ecoblue. My issue is that in the 5th gear at 50mph on the motorway I want to overtake and my car is speeding up very slowly (previous 2015 Ford Focus no issue). Is it normal? Does anyone experience that issue? I went to a service and they checked the car, they told that everything is okay. Thanks for the answers

Is it the new one also 120bhp?  They did make a 95bhp version.

Could you get that in a Titanium, though? I thought the 95ps was only offered on Style and Zetec?

Well if @Szabolcs1986 returns and tells us the registration (assuming it is in the UK) then we can find out the exact build spec. 🤔

Well spotted.  I didn't note the new one was also a Titanium.

Must just be all the extra weight from the unnecessary second camshaft and set of valves in that case. :whistling:

Looks like the newer one is just worse from the factory then.  Which matches my experience of every other new item I've bought recently.

Yeah, same on this side. But even then I can't understand how it can be much worse than an older model.

Just mapped for lower torque at that particular RPM.

If you can find a graph showing the torque figures for standard mapping on both the 1.5 TDCI and the 1.5 EcoBlue that should confirm it.

Emissions can strangle them too

In similar vein, is the gearing different on the Mk 4?

Gearing seems to have got higher and higher over the years in pursuit of lower emissions/higher mpg with the result that many cars achieve max speed in 4th or 5th and certainly can't attain max revs in 5th/6th (except down a very steep hill😀).

There you go Roger, the Transmission Ratios for the two 1.5 Diesels and the 1.5 150bhp Petrol for comparison.

Interesting stuff. Do you have the figures for the Mk 3.5 1.5Tdci for comparison in your mine of information, John?
