help! spilt some brake fluin in engine bay

Featured Replies

hello guys

had the warning light popped up saying brake fluid low.

because the way the brake fluid rservoir is positioned, it is very awkward to just pour from the bottle so i used a funnel but i poured it in bit too fast and it overfilled.

i have attached some pictures of where the fluid went in the engine.

i need to know if i can just pour warm water down there to try rinse it out?

it went just around the area under the brake fluid reservoir.

many thanks guys

If the warning light came on then it is almost certain that you have a leak somewhere, the level does go down by a small amount as the Pads wear but not by much. The Reservoir may be shared with the Clutch on that car. I can't remember.

Personally I would just wipe up as much Fluid as possible, others may do differently, the Fluid can strip paint though.

many thanks for your reply @Tizer

its quite tight space but i will give it a go.

I'd hose it down with a hose or watering can.  It's all designed to get wet in the rain, just take it for a quick drive after so that water can't sit on any plugs and seep in overnight.

many thanks for the reply @TomsFocus

il pour some warm water now. i dont think  i got any fluid on any electrical plugs, just on the hose and insulated wires.

If you’ve got any brake cleaner you could spray that in the area to help wash it away otherwise hot soapy water is another good suggestion
