Engine Malfunction

Featured Replies

Got a 2010 S-Max that’s coming up with an “engine malfunction” message on the dash and won’t start. Have tried a new battery but this didn’t change anything. Have connected to a friend’s OBD reader but they said they can’t gain access. Any ideas what could be going on?!

Sounds like it could be the infamous instrument cluster fault.

Give the top of the dashboard a good couple of thumps with your hand just above the instrument cluster and see if there is any change.

Have tried this and it’s changed nothing. Thanks for the suggestion though!

You need to use a multimeter and measure the resistance of both MS and HS canbus systems at the OBDII port.

Each Canbus should measure 60 Ohms.
