C-Max 2003 - do not start, dashboard off

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I was replacing interior fuses in my good old C-Max 2003 and unfortunately I unplugged the large green wiring harness on the right side - Fuse box

After plugging the harness again both the engine and instrument cluster do not start. Everything else (windows, radio, interior lights, headlights) works fine. However when I try to turn on the engine I only hear click from one of the larger square fuses - K4 position .

After plugging to OBD I’ve got these errors: U1900, P0610, P1000, P1260, P2121, P2122. Battery is fine, I’ve tried to unplug it for half and our and nothing. I’ve try to keep the key in ON position for more than 10minutes to programme the immobiliser and still no effect.

Does anyone has similar problems?

Thanks for any suggestions!

If the only plug you removed was the green then it is most likely not fully pushed back in now. Try unplugging and replugging it again.

Disconnect the battery negative cable for 10 minutes

Whilst disconnected check the green connector is fully seated

Reconnect the negative cable and don't touch anything for 10 minutes

See if that cures it

If not you may have a fuse blown somewhere

I’ve been reconnecting the harness so many times, pushing like crazy, pushing individual cables and nothing. :/

But yeah, will try once again with the unplugging the battery.

btw. Do you know if there’s a chance to find somewhere the wiring diagram of this green connector?

Thanks!

Check fuse F114.

One more thing, I’ve noticed one unplugged grey connector that I believe wasn’t connected before, but I can be wrong.

However, I cannot find where it should be connected. :/ Any ideas?

Your pictures don't work in the UK unfortunately. Some picture sites are blocked over here now.

Here you go

Hmm, I don't remember seeing that small plug before. It might be Bluetooth module but that really is a guess at this point.

Did you check fuse F114?

Good call Tom. On pre 2007 models its F67, same fuse just renumbered.
Would also check that you have voltage on the fuse with the ignition on!

All the immobiliser & instrument cluster fuses (46, 67, 68) checked and replaced just in case and… nothing. :/

Adding better pic of mysterious connector.

Definitely not Bluetooth module. Trying to think of anything else in that area that would need 3 pins now.

Not glovebox light. Not footwell light. Not passenger airbag deactivation.

Possibly aux input? That was fitted just inside the glovebox on cars with that option.

Are your brake lights working?

  • Author

Brakes lights works, but only when the ignition is on. What is a bit weird for me, but what I know ;)

@TomsFocus thanks for clarification!

The power to the instrument cluster is via the Blue connector, have you tried reseating that?

Reconnect the negative cable and don't touch anything for 10 minutes - thanks @DaveT70 , but no change :/

Reconnecting blue harness and still nothing.

I'm running out of ideas, you really need to be checking for voltages at the fuses rather than just replacing them.
F46 should be permanent live 12v
F67 should be 12v with ignition on ( but can assume ok as brake lights work)
F68 is just for the radio (accessory position of key)

Don't remove the fuse when checking voltage, just touch the metal pins either side of the fuse rating number.

Only other thought which relates to the green connector, check the larger central pins for discolouration, seem to remember these do corrode.

You may have blitzed it.

Have you got FORScan?

If you have, go into maintenance and reset the BCM or GEM, IPC and PCM (module reset)

Then clear the DTCs and see what happens

Obviously, make sure everything is reconnected properly first
