Focus CC Passenger window intermittent

Featured Replies

First use of the car this year, and I have a problem with the passenger door window.

The window will not reliably close with the passenger door switch, the drivers door switch or the remote open all / close all function.

I tested the roof today, and the window went down as part of the roof opening cycle, but would not come up. I was working on replacing the pollen filter and it started to rain. When I tried to close the window it would either not move, or move a little. This behaviour was the same from both front window switches. Eventually it worked and it closed.

I did a quick search of the forum and could not find anything similar.

Is this likely to be a new window motor or just some contact cleaner at the motor end ?

Thanks in advance for guidance.

I have seen a YouTube video that dissassembles the motor and manages to get it working by cleaning the rust on the screw drive part. Looks quite invasive taking the motor off, but it may be the only option as I am struggling to find a new replacement motor. And I dont fancy spending £150 on a secondhand part from eBay that may go exactly the same way mine did.

Change of problem statement - All windows intermittent when controlled by the drivers main switch.

Tested the windows this morning before I planned to strip down the door, to find the drivers side window control appears to be intermittent, as I can close the individual windows from their own window controls.

The situation is that the windows will go down and when i want to raise them, it operates for a little while and then cuts out and then starts again.

This sounds more like a circuit breaker than a switch failure, as it happens on ALL 4 windows.

I do not want to buy a replacement switch to find there is another more likely culprit.

What else should I be looking at ?

This was fixed by resetting the automatic open and closure settings. It took a few atemps to re-set it. I think it worked after the 3rd or 4th attemmpt. Now the switches operate the windows as I would expect.

Even better, nothing had to be taken apart.

Although I would like to have a word with the last owners of the 2009 Focus CC, as in their ownership, the pollen filter was last replaed on the 9th Sep 2014 !

If you're not using the car, the window rubbers might be getting stiff or sticky. If the motor senses any friction against the window it stops to prevent people accidentally trapping body parts in the window.

You may also find the cables for the mechanism are seizing up while not in use.

Some useful things to check. I did clean and prep the rubber seals on the car yesterday, as this is vital with a CC. I suspect it was down to lack of use, and the battery had needed a jump mid-way through the winter period.

Remove all the regs and lubricate the mechanisms

With the rarity of the car, the scarcity of parts and their tendency to be unreliable, that is very good advice.

Unless they end up breaking more parts trying to remove them... 🤔

I wouldn't know what to do for the best here personally. Feel like there needs to be a balance between maintaining but also not removing fragile parts that are likely to break uneccesarrily.

It's only door casings and rear quarters

I'd get them out, check the cables and bobbins and fully lubricate them.

Especially the rear ones

CC owner here - my first had three failed regulators, one (drivers) I repaired and the other two both nearside I got from ebay. The door one had mangled cables and the rear one had the irritating plastic socket failure for the drive cable. This car got written off, so I did the (not) sensible thing and bought another. The first thing I did was fully lube the door regulator slides as they worked perfectly. Now occasionally the drivers will not go up if at the very bottom but usually if I shut the door it works - go figure. I have seen some truly eye watering prices quoted on ebay for the drivers regulator mechanism so periodically I shall continue to lube it up.

On a side note, I have read that the CC3 is supposed to be top spec, heated seats etc etc but mine has a Ford sticker clearly saying CC3 when the car does not have these advanced features. It's on a 10 plate so one of the last I guess. Anybody able to clarify this conundrum? Cheers.

Maybe a previous owner added the sticker. People used to 'upbadge' cars a few years ago.

Does your V5 say CC3?
