Ford Sync install

Featured Replies

Hi all
I have recently acquired a 2013 Mk 3 Focus and have attempted to set up my iPhone however my phone is not discoverable and on further investigation it seems that the Sync system is no longer installed!
So my question is how can I reinstall it, I assume it is Sync 2 as it has no large touchscreen.

Any and all help gratefully received!

TIA

SYNC 2 is an 8 Inch touchscreen. The SYNC 2 system was introduced on the MK3.5 in 2014.

A 2013 MK3 has the old SYNC 1.0 system.

What do you mean with "it seems that the Sync system is no longer installed!"?

SYNC 1 is just the connectivity system that offers USB, Bluetooth and Voicecontrol. I suggest to remove all connected phones from the system (audio system settings). Next connect the phone to the SYNC system (from the phones Bluetooth menu) and follow all instructions on the phone and audio system screen.

Note that back in 2013 there was also a Low Level audio system available without SYNC/Bluetooth.

Thanks for your reply
It must be Sync 1 then as you say.

I can tick the bluetooth box on the screen but my phone will not bring up Ford Audio.
There is an option to 'add' a phone on the screen but I can't seem to scroll down to the 'add' box.
At some point during my many attempts I have seen a message something like 'sync not available,' and 'install using usb port'. Sorry I can't be more precise as I'm not with the car at the moment.
Searching online I have found a Ford Sync updates site which appears to give me an option to download software to install or update the system so maybe that's the way forward?

SYNC 1.0 cannot be updated by the user. This can only be done by a Ford dealer but the latest available update was released at the beginning of 2014, just before support officially ended and Ford moved on to SYNC 1.1 and SYNC 2.

You are basically stuck with a highly outdated connectivity system that has not been supported for over 12 Years. Bluetooth technology has changed quite a bit through the Years. Especially Iphones are notorious for compatibility issues.

I suggest trying a different phone first before doing anything else. Preferably Android since those seem to be the least compatibility issues.
