What parts do I need?? Rear suspension need part numberd

Featured Replies

Hi all, looking for some more advice

I have these advisories on my MOT. If I wanted to replace the arms (as it's probably easier than replacing the bushes and if you have to get the arm off to do it you might as well replace)

  • Nearside Rear Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement trailing arm bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))

  • Offside Rear Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement trailing arm bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))

  • Rear Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i))

To add to this if the srmf come with bushes factorunfittedó

Which part is it as eurocarparts is confusing me, registration if the car is available if needed. If someone could link me to the part I need it would help!

Thanks all so

Hi,

This is the genuine lower arm.

However, it's not as simple as it looks. The eccentric bolts will be seized into the bushes so they'll need to be cut off and replaced as well. (Bolt, washer and nut).

And if the arms are rusty, then the springs probably are as well. Have you checked whether they'd need replacing while it's all apart? The eccentric bolt sets the rear toe angle (wheel alignment/tracking) so you will have to have 4 wheel alignment done after replacing the arms, and it would be a waste of time and money to have to go through that again if a spring snaps a month later.

Here's some photos

Whilst they are off might as well do the springs and maybe the drop links too

What's the bolt on the wheel end?

Looking on gsf and it's look like it will cost around £112

Using

FCA7931 Arm £39.17 each

AEX0012 spring £16.43

Total (excluding bolts) £112

I remember when I restored the rear underside of my 2009 mk2 focus I just got a kit of eBay like this

Like Tom said above most of the bolts be siezed and I had to cut them out so hence undecided just to renew all.

It came with the bolts as well and I just cleaned up my springs and repainted them as they where in good condition. At that time I took the whole rear subframe out to repaint just when I was at it.

It may be of some help if you could find a set like this.

I think you need to decide how long you want to keep the car. If long term , then best replace arms and springs now unless they are in nice condition (may be even consider new shocks). Replacing the rear control arms is a fair bit of work, so it might be a binary choice for the car. I have done the entire undercarriage of my 1.8 TDCI but then I am aiming for 10 more years.

To cut those eccentric bolts use a reciprocating saw with a blade made for cutting thick steel (probably tungsten carbide or similar). If you're lucky you only need to cut one side of each bolt then you can punch the out easily. You can find a previous detailed post of mine here, and others too. I wouldn't waste more than 10 mins with a breaker car on those bolts, before going nuclear with the reciprocating saw.

Im looking to keep the car 5-10 years I hope!

Just another question, what can you cover the bolts in to prevent them rusting?

Copper grease? And if so before of after fitting? Just on the off chance they need to be done again?

Ty hanks to everyone that has chipped in xx
