Focus 2025 plate Battery

Featured Replies

Hi,

So I've noticed if I leave my car parked and unsured for 3 days, I get a notification saying remote features disabled via the ford app and when I go out to the car, the doors unlock ok but dash/screen doesn't come on, interior light doesn't come on. Car starts but I get a 12v battery low message on the screen in red.

So I've been looking on here and it seems some people recommend getting a Yuasa YBX7096 battery. Is that battery compatible with my Focus 1.0 stline x 155 MHEV auto 25 plate? Not sure what type of battery I have in my car tbh as I only got the car in July last year so I've had any reason to open the bonnet so far. Car has only done approx. 5.5k miles to date. Will the battery fit? Does it void any manufacturer warranty if fitted to the car? Could I get local Ford dealer to fit it or will they only fit the battery that it came with? Is it easy to fit by any garage or is there a "registering battery to car" that's needed and then entering any codes into the screen if it looses settings etc?

Issue is becoming more of a concern now as previously I was using the car for work each day so wasn't left unused much for more than 3 days. Now I've stopped using the car for work, it's now complaining more and concern it may not start one day. I've taken it out for approx. 20min drive and then 20min drive back today but I suspect it wont do much and don't particular want to have to drive the car for an hour or so every 3 days just to ensure I can use the car when I need to.

For comparison, My dad has the same car, 2024 and he can leave his car unused for 3 weeks or so and no a issue. As soon as you open the doors, dash etc comes on, when you start it no low 12v battery warnings etc.

Thanks

Kev

Looks like Halfords have them and would fit it also, I presume they will reset BMS and anything else required so it is registered to car and the car knows what battery it is etc?

Thanks

Your car and battery are still under warranty, take it back to the dealership and see what they say.

I cured similar battery issues by using a smart charger with a pulse repair function, but that's because I have only covered just under 2000 miles in 5 years from new so compensated for the lack of driving by regularly charges.

It seems there are all kinds of odd things like batteries only charging to 80% by default, alternators that don't output when you expect them to, all in the cause of lower emissions and or better fuel economy. Totally baffling.

Thanks, Yes, I'm planning to get it book in to be looked at but concern was if they replace it with like for like, it will no doubt come back again hence wondered if they would fit the higher battery if request or if they only fit the standard battery. I prob can't get it book in until middle of next month atm.

Charging my battery isn't overly easy - would mean running a cable out of a window (high up) so not ideal as would need longer cables etc and couldn't leave them connected all the time so would mean disconnecting removing the cables into the house and then after couple of days reconnecting again etc hence idea of getting a higher battery fitted as some reported on here to having no issues after doing that which sounds perfect solution.

Unless you are a very rare driver whose pattern of usage happens to match the parameters of the car's "intelligent" charging system the problem is unlikely to.go away altogether, unfortunately.

Thanks, Yes saw those post and seems the higher battery does help but unsure if Ford dealer will fit that if requested or just fit the standard meaning I'd have to go elsewhere to get one fitted and unsure if that would void the warranty. I'm only planning to keep the car another couple of years and then change to something else as this is the 2nd Focus I've had and I'm not overly impressed tbh.

Last one failed first MTO due to battery leak and MOT also showed signs of it burning fuel. It also started to use Oil so I had to top it up every couple of months - and was doing the same journey this one is. Previous one didn't complain of battery though or 12v battery low etc.

I'm considering changing to the new Golf 8.5 maybe a 1.5 TSI auto in R line or Black spec or maybe there eTSI 1.5 engine which can do some miles on Elec and also have petrol, just not sure on the battery in the eTSI and will end up no good after 2 or 3 years and cost a fortune to replace so considering maybe sticking to Petrol only.

Better keep an eye on that if considering a Golf. I believe the auto is e-TSI only already and they are dropping the normal petrol (only available as manual) altogether. The 1.5eTSI is only mild hybrid, like Ford MHEV it won't run on electric only. They are introducing a full hybrid later this year, which will, as does the existing 1.5TSI eHybrid which is PHEV. All rather confusing.

Friends of ours have a Mk 8.5 manual and are very pleased with it, except for some of the ADAS which they found intrusive. (Come to think of it they haven't mentioned it for a while so must have got used to it!)

Another friend has a 1.5 T-Roc and is similarly pleased, but I think that is going full hybrid also shortly.

Thanks, So they are dropping the 1.5 TFSI Golf 8.5? Dam, I new most cars are going MHEV/PHEV by 2030 but was expecting to still be able to buy the normal petrol engine until maybe 2028/2029.

Can't afford to change it yet, will likely be 2028 before i'm ready to change it.

Thanks

Kev
