DPF Soot Accumulation, what's normal?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just trying to understand what's normal soot accumulation for a DPF, I've got a 2020 Smax 2L and I've always struggled with the DPF and the engine management light coming on so bought a OBDScanner and Forscan so I can try and manage it better but the initial values I'm seeing lead me to believe that its filling up a little too fast.

The car recently went back to the dealer who as part of a management unit replacement did a forced regen so in my book it should have been back to pretty much zero. So other than a few miles testing all it did was drive the 80 miles back to my house. During this drive its managed to need to do a regen (probably passive but how did it get to that kind of level in only roughly 40 miles) and when i first plugged in Forscan it read 48% soot load after only 38 miles

The next day we ran a few errands and did another 50 miles

So in this 50 miles its tried to do a regen and failed so that night i took it out for a blast around the motorway to clear it out, 2.5k to 3k revs at roughly 70 mph, after 10 miles it had reduced to 11% and I ws pretty happy that things were working, drove on a bit to see if it would get any lower and switched to 6th and cruised home. As I was driving back (20 miles after the regen) I was watching the soot load climb up pretty quickly and finally when i got home it was at 28%

The next day I drove to B&Q and over 4 miles managed another 1% but the DPF load increased by 5%

To me it feels like it filling up very fast, at this rate Ill be popping out on the motorway for a very precise drive to manage the DPF, is this normal?

Any help really appreciated

Paul
