Focus alternator supplier.

Featured Replies

It seems that my 2021 Focus T.X. almost unbelievably needs a new alternator at 1,990 miles...

I can't afford Ford prices so if anyone can recommend an alternative supplier I'd be very grateful.

Thank you in advance.

In that situation I would be tempted to check the Breakers Yards for one from a crashed car, even with a damaged one you may be able to scavenge the defective part.

Out of interest do you know what is wrong with it.

Thank you for your reply, apparently it's intermittently charging with " charging system service now " warning notification and battery light illumination.

I think I've sourced a replacement much cheaper than Ford, it's apparently a guaranteed fit from the eBay seller.

That looks like a good price for a new one, hopefully it is faulty and not just a Wiring fault.

That was my concern to begin with, wiring issues can be difficult to detect,I had a very trusted local auto electrician have a look and he assured me it's the alternator intermittently charging / not charging.

Hard to believe as the car has covered less than 2000 miles from new !

The saga continues, the existing faulty alternator is allegedly rated at 150 amp output, it's not been removed yet so positive identification not yet available.

All the alternative suppliers are listing alternators with 165 amp output....

Can anyone definitely tell me which output is correct please ?

Thank you.

I don't have any definite answers but maybe the higher rated Alternator is meant for the 2.0 Diesel Vignale.

Don't take this as gospel but the Charging System on these cars works on a Duty Cycle which is unlikely to get to 100% and I would have thought that having a higher rated Alternator would not do any harm anyway.

Your Auto Spark would know more about whether any harm could be done than me.

Edit, according to this Ford did change the Alternator to an Eco one near the end of 2019. This is not an official Ford Document though.

Thank you, that source confirms part number 2306021,based on the VIN.

It's definitely a 150a output which isn't the one I identified above.

The correct one is £500 🥺
