Galaxy won’t start

Featured Replies

Hi

I’m having major issues with my Ford galaxy

  • Author

My Ford Galaxy 2013 1.6 Eco Boost will not start.

I bought as a non starter had

The wet belt replaced ,

Head skimmed

New plugs , Fuel pump in tank , module on top of tank , fuel pressure switch. , BCM coded up to the car ,

X 4 New ignition coils packs , New battery New starter motor ,

Car feels like it wants to start but just doesn’t! Does anyone have any ideas please 🙏

Welcome!
Difficult when bought with previous issues plus lots of work done with presumably no evidence or reasons for that work being done i.e. guesswork (unless you can give a more detailed history?)
My only comment would be to ask if any Ford specific codes are shown using Forscan and after that, using it to investigate using live data parameters to look for clues unless there is something major wrong like timing/compression/check for spark etc.

1.6 EcoBoost doesn't have a wetbelt.

As above, we need some fault codes to narrow down the possibilities here.

Hi

I’ve had Numerous guys come out with there diagnostic machine , when they scan different codes come up all the time . When they clear the codes it still doesn’t start or come up with the same code . We found a fault inside the BCM there was ingress and a pin had broken, I had a 2nd hand one reprogrammed the guy said everything was talking to all modules and the vehicle should start but doesn’t !

Are you getting any immobiliser warning lights or messages when trying to start now?

I wouldn't trust anyone's word personally. Would want to prove for sure that there aren't any BCM and key communication codes before going any further. You can get Forscan yourself for free. Just need a cable or wireless dongle costing around £30 now.

If it's turning over at a good speed, you can try some EasyStart to see if that'll get it running. If it runs briefly but then stops we know the injectors aren't being fired. If it starts and continues to run then we know it's just missing a start parameter such as RPM or fuel pressure.

Hi

Thanks for responding

It turns over all fine , I’ve tried the easy start but still doesn’t run , No immobiliser warnings come up at all . It really sounds like it wants to start but just doesn’t. I’ve fitted a. New pressure sensor that sits on the engine at the top left. .

If it doesn't catch on EasyStart then we know it's not a fuel problem.

Potentially a compression issue, having been timed wrong (valves partly open on compression stroke), or an error with the rebuild. If you've got a compression tester that's definitely worth checking across all 4 cylinders.

But the cheapest and easiest check right now is for a spark. On older petrol engines the relatively low compression wasn't enough for EasyStart to catch without a spark. Compression should be higher for engines with a turbo and direct injection, but I'm not sure whether it's high enough for EasyStart to catch on this particular engine or not.
