1.0 mk3 Intercooler

Well, the airtec intercooler is much bigger than this universal Chinese one.

The original intercooler that is currently fitted will most likely be more effective.

Currently turbo boost is around 1.6-1.8.

Horsepower around 160 plus. The weather and enviroment is hot during summer.

So the original could certainly be effective?

The original intercooler of the Focus MK3/MK3.5 1.0 EcoBoost is 343 x 158 x 65 mm. This intercooler has 90 degree endcaps and is mounted vertically.
The uprated Airtec Stage 2 intercooler for the Focus MK3/MK3.5 1.0 EcoBoost is 560 x 294 x 50 mm. This intercooler has straight endcaps with the inlet/outlet at the same side, custom hoses and pipework, and is mounted horizontally in front of the radiator.

The universal Chinese intercooler is 642 x 160 x 65 mm. This intercooler. This intercooler has straight endcaps with the inlet/outlet at the opposite side. Custom hoses, pipework and brackets are required to install this intercooler. However I highly doubt that this intercooler is going to fit at all either vertically or horizontally.


I suspect that installing a Focus MK3/MK3.5 ST intercooler with custom hoses and pipework will be an easier and more effective upgrade.

Should it be installed like the airtec or like the original one?

Horizontally or vertically?

That's the stock one now.

Environmental temperature around 28-30C

The first picture is idle (driven around 15 minutes) - around 50C.

The second picture was taken while driving (by screen recorder).

After three - four times, full throttle - 34C.
