Focus ST struggling to start

Featured Replies

I have a Focus ST 20 plate that is struggling to start after it's been stood for 2 to 3 days.

It will start eventually, even after one press, it's just cranking (i believe that's correct) for long before it actually starts the engine.

The battery will be 2 year old in September and was recently charged fully, with stop start working, even on short journeys.

I do very short journeys (trying to go the long way home more often) but with stop start working, I don't think it's the battery.

It's due a service in just over a month so will let them no as I'm not mechanically minded, just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what it could be. Once started, it runs perfectly fine.

Hi,

Is it time for a major service including spark plugs? If so, I'd wait and see if it's better with new plugs.

Also wouldn't recommend filling the tank if you're only doing short journeys. Petrol does go off if it's left on the tank for months and that makes it more difficult to start.

It's coming up to It's 6th service, so not sure what that is for an ST, I'll have a look later when I get more time. Noted on the petrol.

I've just checked, spark plugs every 3 years on the Mk4 ST. So they will be done on 6th year service at a Ford dealer.
