Oil Change Required Message

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2017 Ford Focus LZ (auto 1.5L) and I have just had a ‘oil change required’ message pop up as I was driving home from work. Now the indication is just an ‘i’ symbol. I have only just changed my oil and had my car serviced a few weeks ago. I should also mention I checked my oil and the level is fine and it doesn’t look of a poor quality.

So my question is, is this message a serious warning or is it a simple reminder thing that hasn’t been reset and just needs to be cleared? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Sounds like the service reminder just wasn't reset in this case. As it's only been a few weeks you can reset it now.

As this is an automatic, the standard 'brake & throttle pedal reset' won't work. The engine will just start if you try that. It can be reset using diags such as Forscan. There may also be a different way of doing it without diags, but I'm not aware of one so far. It might be worth going through the dash menus in case there's a service reset option in there somewhere.

Hey mate,

Did a little digging after posting this, which I probably should have done first, however had a lot of problems with this car so I started freaking out straight away. The brake and accelerator method actually was the way to reset it.

Appreciate your response, thank you - all sorted.

Oh, that's very interesting. We had an automatic Mondeo where the engine just started and revved instead of resetting the service interval. It must be model specific. 🙂
