Cost being the issue is the reason they are overkill. Coilovers are obviously better but for more than twice the price of lowering springs for a low end set unless i was going to use the car for something where coilovers would be a clear advantage i wouldn't bother.

Hey, I think i know the guide you're after, here's a link to Bens one....

Mikester, what alloys did you put on to replace your 17's? You sold your spacers to put on new wheels, curious to see them as your car already looked great. Got a set of 15mm spacers coming in the post :)

Rs7 softlines, they're wider than the streetpacks so with spacers on they were pushing into the arch/bodywork so they had to go unfortunately.

There's a thread on here with all my pics in im sure, if not go over to zsoc to see the stuff I've changed.

Lowering is probably the best performance/styling mod you can do to a car so either option (coilovers or springs) will be a great choice

spot on mate, thanks

Well I've done on both on 2 separate cars so I reckon i'm in a better position to comment than most people in this thread :)

Granted I've never had coilovers on my Fez, but I had Spax 40mm springs on the Focus, then went to Spax RSX Coilovers. The ride was just too hard.

Granted the handling should be better, but there were too many sacrifices, I couldn't drive around without looking out for bumps in the road because it was just too stiff.

Were those ride height only? With rebound adjustable I can have mine as soft as it was standard? Different car I know but the principle is the same.

I've used Spax, Eibach, Gaz, KW and even TRD on my jap baby. There's only one brand that have truly blown me away in regards to quality and that was probably the one with the lowest rep and the cheapest believe it or not.

I've heard alot of people say how good the "cheaper" coilovers are.

The spax RSX coilovers I had are their highest spec coilovers and costs about £800 new... rebound adjustable and ride height..... I got a few issues with wheel bearings and usual related probs when lowering a focus 90mm :P just kinda put me of lowering it so much and fell in love with the Eibachs after seeing a few pics of the height.
