Just spoke to the garage, all done but the engine has "a bit of a shake" to it.:( not sure what he means by this but is it possibly a mount, who knows, ill find out after work I gusse

Just had a good long chat with my mechanic, he said the idle is 10 times better and the slight shake is minimal, likley causes are bad fuel (I fill up at Tesco) so to try a full tank of better diesel. He is also disconnecting the battery for me for an hour to try to reset ECU just in case

Ok so the car now sounds great and drives smother, there is a noticeable "wobble" sometimes when you come to a complete standstill. This does appear to be going away. Is this a normal think on a big diesel?

Mechanic through dmf and/or injector issues causing this so called idle wobble, but even he isn't sure if its normal as the transit apparently all have the wobble. He gave me some diesel specialist details to go to if I'm worried but he's stumped as there's nothing seemingly wrong with it.

It starts first time everytime.

It's doesn't smoke

Mpg I'm not sure about yet.

I don't think its down on power but never had a 2.0 diesel before.

No warning light

Slight loss of oil but this is a boost pipe I believe

All theories or comments welcome as always kids

Update Time:

Ok so the Glow plug light came on when putting my foot down to join a motorway on a slight incline, reset fault codes and since has not come back (no matter how hard we try)

We are going to change the fuel filter on monday and the air filter as its black, and we will see if there is any bits in there.

She runs fine at the moment, no smoke, no cutting out, starts on the first turn of the key everytime but there is still this wobble on idle which im sure isnt right. Im getting this weridish noise which im not sure is normal(video below)

http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u300/zemonmotorsport/?action=view&current=VIDEO0010.mp4

Also notice that there is a bit of a "mes" on the intercooler end of the boost pipe running from the egr down to intercooler, i suspect a split somewhere, woul this cause the idle wobble? and could it cause the faule code P0251?

I dont know if its me but it looks like two of the injector lines have been changed??

the two inner ones look a different colour to the two outer ones (please note, its not diesel on the top, its me with my clumsy hands and oil :))

I dont know if anyone can see on this picture below put it looks like there is a plug there and its had masking tape over it? any ideas what its for?

IMAG0772.jpg

Also found this plug below by the fuse box? anyone know what its for and if it should be plugged into the bit above?

Cheers

P0251 is injection pump fuel metering control, 'A' injector.

So the "A" means injector issue?

I would assume it means whichever injector is the 'A' one is duff.

Can only be either of the end ones if logic applies.

You did say two appeared a different colour anyway. So I'd assume two were replaced at some time.

One cylinder not getting enough fuel would cause a shudders engine and idling problems anyway.

Very true, the only thing that is turning me away from the injectors is the fact that there is no smoke, no starting issues, no issues when driving. The glow plug light only came on the once which is what makes me think its blocked fuel filter/rubbish fuel/fuel pump/sensors/ or the rail

But even with the rail I'd expect some smoke.

Had a look into this and there is only codes for "A" and "B" so im gussing it doesnt directly point to any injector just some part of the fuel system. from some research it appears to mean an issue somewhere from the tank up and till just after the fuel filter, so if its not just the filter blocked i gusse it will be a new pump

I've been told the fuel pressure is bouncing around on idle but not when rev'd, now the filters been changed its not cracking over too well :( gona have a leak off test done

I have the exact same problem with my engine, fuel pressure bouncing, inectors singing rythmically as when the pressure goes high they try to dump the excess fuel, chugging idle. Had it since July.

New air & fuel filter

EGR cleaned & blanked

New MAF sensor

New crank sensor

New Cam sensor

New inlet metering valve

Injectors rebuilt and recoded.

Guess what, nil fx. :-(

I thought it might be the aux belt and pulley as mine has dne 80K, but since you have just had that changed and it's still chugging you might have saved me 400 nicker and still no fix.

Your glow light is coming on as the fuel pressure hits the low swing at the "wrong time" and the ECU goes to limp mode and gives you the fuel metering 'A' code. Mine does that too occasionally.

Is yours still whooshing on boost as its a sure sign of an intake leak post turbo? (Mine isnt whooshing or smoking)

It would be magic if we could find the cause of our woes.

Surely we cannot be the only two owers with this problem, anyone had this and fixed it?

Think your going to need the ecu update issued dec 06

It is possible its the ECU upgrade that's needed, however I'm think pcm or the rail so ill try these next. The puller was a seperate issue but once fixed it revealed another :(

right i reset the ecu yeserday and done the usual procedure but i got the glow plugs and mil lamp on this time. its the first time in nearly a week though. it only seems to be when i drive it, it has never happened when the missus drives so she only revs to 2100rpm so ive been doing this an its fine at the moment. its only when you go over 2150rpm with more than 50% throttle in gears above 3rd that it happens.

I have looked at the ecu upgrade from dec 2006 but the issue relating to this differ to what i am getting.

I think im fairly sure its either 1) a leaky fuel pipe or a losse pipe letting in air. 2) the metering valve 3)injectors.

Now gave it a good clean this weekend and i noticed loads of dust from where its been repairs from the accident, under the back seats so i wonder if this has got into the fuel area under the seats.....further investigation required when i get a chance.....which is rarley between working and sleeping.

I reset the ECU today and i got the same issues, glow plug light was flashing for a while but has gone now but the engine management light is on permanently now :( , sigh i feel like driving over to the previous owners house and giving him a shoeing. I'am sure that the light must have come on before but has been ignored which would be a good reason why he was selling it.

Just out of interest its a ghia and i have heard you can use the trip computer to show any fault codes, is this true and does anyone know how to show them?

Press and hold the trip button when you start the car, info will show on the screen and advance with pushes of the trip button.

Gave it a go but it didn't work, held the trip button in and started the car but the computer didnt display anything other than it normally does. I have heard it only works on early model so that might be why.

Also the management light has gone out when i started it to day and it hasn't come back on, to be honest iam a bit fed up with clutching at straws as iam not going to use the car until it is right so i have booked it in for a diagnostics/ECU software update this thursday at fords.
