Snap!!!I did mine today also.Mines a 1.6 so a little bit more difficult to get at the egr mounting bolts but managed it without taking all the trim panels etc off and also just unbolted the fuel filter housing from engine and stuffed it out the way so I could access bottom egr mounting bolt.Shoved blanking plate in and tightened everything back up.Also cleaned mafs with cleaner and refitted.On first impressions car is a lot smoover on acceleration with no hesitating black spots.Only problem I can think of is every now and again there is a tap(sounds like someone hitting two pieces of wood together) or crack coming from top half of engine.It only dose in now and again so not sure what it is...I stuck 2 gallons of bp ultimate in and booted it up and down the dual carriage way to clear injectors etc,so will report back in a few days and let you know what I think...If any one knows what the tap/crack,knock sound is I will be most interested in knowing.... :D

so far so good, been booting it around every opportunity i got and it feels so much livelier - probably due to having a decat done (removed cat, removed inards and welded cat back up and back on car, looks like its not been removed), no smoking either :D

just need to get it mapped properly to see what difference it makes

No warning lights at all.

Not sure about the 2.0 engine as to where the egr unit sits but it will be possible to block it. Im sure someone on here has done it theirs

Nice work, I was always led to believe that fitting these on the 1.8's was a pig of a job, seems quite the opposite. Where did you get the blanking plate from ? And keep us posted on weather or not it starts throwing up the EML. As again from what i've read, the 1.8 are a euro4 engine and can be prone to warning lights with a blanking plate fitted. Hope that is a myth too, coz I wanna blank mine :D

ps, is it a solid plate, or one with a hole in it ??? Cheers, MIke.

i got the plate off ebay for a few quid - solid plate.

when i was under the car i too thought it was going to be a bugger to get to but with the help of my mechanic mate we decided that it was easier to access it from the engine bay and it certainly was. still no lights (if they do come up i have the torque app on my phone so will clear it!

car feels much more responsive.

should be going to leicester at the weekend so will give it a blast.

Interesting to see how it goes for you. I am having a new EGR fittied to my 1.6TDCI (05) as I type. The old one was coming up as total failiure.

Had seen some people talk about blanking it off but figured I may aswell put a new part on as I can get Ford bits at trade price at my work.

Better with it blanked off mate - even if you get the EGR for free, because the EGR contaminates the inlet with exhaust gasses, and coking up the inlet manifold with carbon, as above, only problem you might have is the EML coming on in a euro 4 engine, which can be reset with a code reader

Solid plate, the ones with holes are a waste of time, defeats the purpose and they only work on cars with working (non- faulty) EGR valves/ systems (solid plates can "fix" faulty/ leaking EGR valve/ systems because they disable them)

You can get the blanking plate online (e-bay) usually about a fiver, solid, stainless steel and a decent thickness (3mm or thicher if you can get it) better with stainless steel because mild steel rusts, aluminium may melt through

Many motorists with euro 4 engines have chosen to block their EGR valves/ systems as preferable to leaving them unblanked

Hey Sal, nice post. I'm thinking of doing this too, do you have any more pics? ie close ups of the job in progress? I was reading up on EGR valves and they seem completely pointless. Ok, they might lower NOx, but then you have to burn more fuel to get the performance back and then create more pollution!

Torque is only on Android if im correct. i have it on mine. and you'll need a bluetooth obd adapter which you can pair up and use with the app to clear codes and check some info on the dials etc. nowhere near the expensive stuff garages use but it does the job and would save you plenty of money trying to get codes off the garages

Ford has its own special protocols, so an OBD11 reader/ OBD11 to bluetooth adaptor that works with a Honda, may not work with a Ford, if it cant read the Ford protocols - sometimes you may have to pay a bit more to get the right one

Is it only TDCi's that it's worth blanking the EGR valve off?

Can TDDi's be done too or would there be no effect? Does the TDDi even have one? haha

Really not knowledgeable in a car we've had in the family since new but it's always been looked after by the family mechanic and all my cars have been petrol :)

Is it worth given the EGR valve and inlet manifold and good clean first?

your more likely to have it. if you can clean it first. my previous car had one and the egr was covered in black gooey stuff, not nice at all. once cleaned and blanked it will be better for your engine.

As Sal has said - better blanked/ a TDDI is liable to have an EGR

If anything the EGR on a TDDI seems to produce even more "goop" than a TDCI,

A TDDI is likely to have a euro3 ECU so can be blanked with no problems

I've bought a blanking plate off Egay but it's only made of aluminium so i'll copy the design and knock one up at work made from Stainless Steel...simple.

Hopefully it'll be as easy to get to and sort out.

Sun is shining, got my blanking plate this morning, so might go get dirty hands, will report back later, let you guys know how I get on. Just on this note,,,, If my egr IS working, will this make any difference ? I've now also got thee Torque Pro app and he ELM327 bluetooth adaptor, so im armed and dangerous lol.
