That was the easiest way for me to wire it up but I suppose you could wire it in with your sidelights aswel that way it would only come on when the sidelights come on

It was on mine mainly because I knew it was 1 of 3 wires cause I fitted an after market stereo. It was just a case of checking which one had no power with the ignition off and the recieved 12v DC when the ignition was turned on. The one you posted a link to should actually fit the thread on the gear stick so should screw on properly. The reason they'll have said it wont fit is because it'll be for the ST which I believe already has the wiring handy for an illuminated gear knob. I might make a guide on how I fitted mine although it does involve taking the stereo fascia off etc which if you havent done it before can be a bit of a nuiscance of a job to get your heaters/blower direction changing properly again lol

Ah right, I'm sure I could sort the wiring out with your help!

There's probably just a + and - to wire up, would the + going to the cigarette lighter be constant or ignition based?

The lighter sockets are usually permanent live.

If you have an illuminated socket then the easiest way is to tap into that so the knob would light up with sidelights etc on.

If not then the next option is the radio illumination live feed, again on with side lights.

It seems on this one:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250688105371?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 There is the red (+) black (-) and a thin green wire next to the red, what is this? How would I wire this up to a red and black wire?

You'll find it can be illuminated either red or green depending which wire you use

Ah right perhaps that's what it is!

Wiring it to my current LED's would mean that it would only illuminate when I put the map light on, which means it would not be on when driving which I want it to do.

Hmmm which live can I use? How would I identify it?

I have ordered the illuminated ignition barrel, I guess I could wire the gear stick up to the ignition barrel

"If you have an illuminated socket then the easiest way is to tap into that so the knob would light up with sidelights etc on."

I think I saw a guide on here for how to install the ignition barrel, can anyone link me to it again?

Plug into my fuse box in a fuse that will come on when the car is on, suggestions?

I couldnt find a fuse diagram online for the mk6.5 so here is one of the ST

http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad58/fordfiestast_co_uk3/img0210bv.jpg

Lets just say for example I piggyback the rear heater switch, connect the live of the gear stick to this and the negative to the negative of my wired LED's.

Would this work?

Looks a bit dodgy lol I remember seeimg someone on another forum who had wired his up literally by pushing the wire into the fuse holder then pushing the fuse in on top to hold the wire in place  and people wonder how their cars go on fire lol. In theory that does look alot better/safer but id put it in with your stereo fuse and then clamp the negative to an earth screw :)

why do you have two leads going into your second picture? I'm guessing the wire in your hand is coming from the fuse box and the gear knob is either the red or the blue at the other end?

With regards to grounding, do you just strip back the insulation, wrap it around the nut and tighten it?
