Decent Illuminated Gear Knob?

Featured Replies

Thats what I did when I grounded mine :) works fine. The wire in my hand is going to the plug that connects to the stereo. If you look at the bit with the two wires you'll see the connector-I had cut the original red (switch live) wire here and reconnected it back together with the wire that I ran back to connect up to the gear knob positive wire

  • Just fitted mine! :D Initally grounded it to my LED wire, but then it would only work when the LED's are on, strange as I thought the ground would just ground it, ended up doing like you and wrapping

So the one you connect to the gear knob is in blue?

It looked like you had two crimp butts at first, but the clear one I have seen before on stereos!

I'm guessing my stock CD will be the same? wiring wise?

Pretty much you'll need to check which wire is the ignition live though as ive got an adaptor harness since ive got an after market stereo. The hardest bit was feeding the 2 bits of wire from the gear knob area through the tray bit and up into the stereo area. I might make a guide over the next few days to showhow I did it. Getting the heater controls connected back up can be abit of a night mare aswel right enough when you remove your stereo fascia (see my guide for it in my signature)

Basically the wire that comes connected to the control knob isnt long enough so I had to connect on to it and extend the 2 bits of cable so that they were long enough to get to the stereo area

it is the blue wire though? If so I get what you have done, if not I do not!

My stereo pops out with 4 keys in each hole, doesn't look half as hard as taking yours out!

This is the stereo wire before I cut into it:

I then fed the wire through from the gear knob area to the stereo area:

I then cut into the ignition live wire crimped the connector to one end and then reconnected the wire back together with the wire id previously fed through aswel connected up

I then fed the ground wire through to the earth screw just below the stereo and stripped the wire/tightened the nut up to secure it:

And then I connected the two (blue) wires that I fed through to the stereo up to the wires that are connected to the gear knob (black one conected to the wire I secured to the ground screw and the Orange one connected to the ign live wire id Fed through):

Hope that helps lol the blue wires are just extra wire that I had to run to connect it up

Yours might be a bit easier with you having the facelift stereo im not sure

Yep I got ya now!

Basically instead of using red and black speaker wire, you have used blue wire- doesn't make a difference though.

Thanks for that, once I have identified the ignition wire to my stereo it will be a simple cut n crimp job :D

Yeah you'll see a bit of tape on one of the wires that I put on so I wouldnt get mixed up which one was postive and which one was the ground wire :) I just bought a roll of 5amp wire

  • Author

Yeah I will use my left over speaker wire, should do the same job :)
