Wind Deflectors Or Not?

Featured Replies

As per my pic in my avator, my fiesta is mars red and the rear windows are not dark tinted.

I was thinking about getting climair wind deflectors, but unsure what will look best. Clear or dark or not bother!!!!

Any suggestions

I would go for dark 100% if it was my choice.

sorry, this doesnt exactly answer your question, but what is the attraction to these things?!

Not sure to be honest.... just fancy them! I am 50-50 on them

haha! thats fair enough, im going in the "not for me" side, although no one should base decisions on my taste !

I'm with you Loz. I think it's just something people do when they can't find anything else to do with their car, along with sticking badges & mud flaps on.

Son has them on his Clio 197 and loves them, he says you can have window open to let in fresh air even on the motorway with no excessive wind noise etc. however I'm still not convinced myself. Think they are really a matter of personal choice.

I use my air vents & get no noise,

i can definitely see the practical side of it, stops rain !Removed! onto the window switches on the door for sure!

and it was great for my uncle for smoking in his Rover 75. just not sure on the looks though. maybe because i think of my uncle in his Rover 75!

Its a "fashion" thing - fashion comes and goes -

Once apon a time chrome wheels, fluffy seat covers and furry dice were "cool" - now they are not

The smoked wind reflectors can look good on the right car, with the right modifications

I think you really have to have the back windows tinted, to fit them / for then to look right

I agree they are definately practical, like you said, it stops the rain. They also stop you getting blown about if your windows open and you can leave the windows open an inch or two in really hot days and noone knows, so you wont get the car broken into.

Hi, why on earth would you need to open your windows on a motorway, and I'd totally dispute any difference in the noise levels being the same. Cars are designed to run with the windows closed, that's why we have CC and A/C...

I have them and they are great for keeping the car cooler in warm weather as I leave the window cracked open a few cm and you can't tell so it allows the hot air out, with tinted rear it makes the front look slot darker too.

Looks great Stephen, a similar look to my own.

I for one always drive along the motorway with my windows open, in fact even in the winter my windows are down.

They are practical - can prevent rain smears on windows , allow you to leave 2 inches open on your car windows on a warm day.

Stop strong wind - especially when you have someone moaning in the car saying they are cold when its 20 degrees!

I had some on my mk7 ZS, they were good in the winter for the reason people have said above, but took them off when the weather started getting warmer this year as was fed up of the squeeky plastic noise in the sun lol. i had the climaair ones

I think Steve's hit the nail on the head regards their only real use, & that's allowing smokers to 'crack' open the window on a rainy day to extract their filthy smoke whilst maybe reducing water ingress. But as i dont smoke if I want comfort & fresh air I'll rely on the highly developed heating, filtering & ventilation system, not a bit of cheap tacky badly fitting plastic. & on a nice day I'm more than happy to have the windows down & enjoy the air rushing past with any ensuing smells, noise & buffeting that a 'deflector' wouldn't stop anyway.

Bit of an old man's option (nearly every 1990s Mitsubishi shogun/pajero has them, along with the cheap and peeling window tinting). No real practical improvements. I agree with others, just use the air vents or air con.

Well I liked them when I had them...

I have deflectors and love them and yes I'm a smoker.

About the only place I can enjoy a cigarette without someone moaning nowadays.

Until someone makes it illegal to smoke drive non smokers can poke it.

If a non smoker gets in my car and bleats about it then they get the bus instead. Simples.

I love my deflectors, I like having an air flow and they're good for all weathers. Good on motorways as well and they look pretty decent as well. Wouldn't have a car without them.

Seems like one of those "marmite" things - im surprised people feel so strongly about them - they are just bits of plastic on the window!

Ive never fitted any but was thinking about it as im considering a very dark tint (all round) and a dark sunstrip and cannot tint the drivers/ passengers glass (much)

Far from them being "cheap" or "tacky" they are solid, well fitting additions to a car.

I like the enhancement they provide to a cars profile and personally find them very useful.

One thing they do very well is stop water running off the roof and straight down the inside of the door when the window is opened in rain.

I too am somebody that likes the window open (at least a crack anyway) all year round

I too have had them on every car I owned, they are so practical and, as stoney said, very solid.

Due to there only being me and the dog in the car, I usualy opt for just the front ones, but this time, I came across a full set for a few quid more than fronts only so thought, why not.

I think they can look good, I had them on my Fiesta but don't miss them on the Focus.

I got annoyed by the restricted vision they give, the pillars are big enough on modern cars without adding to their width.

Plus I tend to use the EATC (even with AC off), keep the windows up and can then crank my music up without looking like a YOB.

Whilst driving to work listening to the local radio station I thought I'd do a bit of 'Mythbusters'. So at 50 mph I put the drivers window all the way down & found no buffeting or turbulence at all, & could still hear the radiio presenter without without having to increase the volume. In fact I only felt the wind when i put my hand out the window. At 70 it was a bit noisier & I struggled to hear the radio at the set volume, but still no turbulence issues. & when I wound the window up to about an inch from closed everything was quite civilised again. So deflectors for allowing you to drive with windows down......myth busted.

As soon as it rains I'll redo the experiment to see how wet I get with the window cracked open 'for ventilation'.
