I have painted some textured external parts, using 4coats of primer,4of paint and 4 of lacquer, would have been a better finish if you rubbed off some of the texture before applying primer, you could also try filler primer?

i rubber off the top layer of primer before painting, and it looked smooth but as i applied the paint it looks more textured, i have more paint to pick up so i wil give it another 2/3 coats when i get the chance im sure it will smooth out right?? :/ :(

Hmm I'm not too sure mate, I haven't really seen a close up of the mk7 interior to see how textured the interior parts are, if its anything like the mk6 then you would probably need like 20 coats if paint to coverup the texture lol.

If I were you, I would be tempted to rub right back down to the texture, and keep rubbing until you take the texture off. It will make painting much easier(and probably not as many coats) and it will be a far better finish:-)

there wasnt really a texture to begin with it was smooth, after i rubbed that down and applied the primer thats when the textture appeared after priming?? if i keep adding paint it will smooth out right?? its only where the primer has harden where you can see it ie, little bit around the edges

I'm sure it will smooth out eventually you may need a good few more coats of paint, I'm no expert though so basically just keep at it and I'm sure you'll get there, I painted textured door mirror covers for a mate and he's well chuffed with them.... So am I lol the are minted.....

How many coats did you do on that??

Try doing a few heavy coats instead of light coats. Like, spray the plastics until the reflection of light, when they're wet, is almost glass like. Take care not to do too heavy a coat or it'll run. The way I got mine so smooth was to do serious heavy coats to the point were the paint was bordering on running. Leave that for an hour or two, until it's dry to a light touch, then clear coat the !Removed! out of it lol

I use primer filler on things I've painted with texture, rubbing down, and applying normal primer then too. Then I apply 4 - 6 light coats of paint, then clear coat, rub it with a high grit until polished, then again with some more clear coat. Do about 3 coats of the clear coat and then buff to a high shine.

post-43519-0-47075100-1379016837_thumb.j

i reckon it would suit it better in the blue.

I like the blue, sliver and black contrast, so i would keep everything on the car blue, black and silver including the overlays if i was you.

But its only my opinion :P

Dont like the Norwich air freshener either!

You need one with a wolves emblem :P :D

  • Author
