Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol Claimed Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

I'll need to check my figures. As I said, I fill to two clicks each Sunday and zero the trip. I keep a record of how many litres I put in and work out my "actual" mpg from that and how many miles the trip reads

I`d be interested to hear how accurate (or not ! ) your mpg meter is v the actual "brim to brim" consumption. Obviously the latter is more accurate if worked out over a fairly full tankful.

20 Jul 2014, Mileage 329.5, litres 35.67 (7.86 gal) miles/l = 9.24, mpg=41.94

Is that 41.9 mpg for the tankful where your mpg meter reported 42.0 ? ! ? If it is I`m amazed it`s that accurate. Whenever I`ve bothered leaving my mpg meter on for the whole tankful it`s always read about 5% high, and so does my wife`s Yaris.

If my car is anything to go by 42mpg is pretty good for a petrol Focus, you must be a reasonably good driver !

I do have an 1.6 petrol,2005,focus...i did bought this car 4 months ago... i can tell you that i did fill twice the fuel tank..every time i did write down the milage...just to see how much it takes for 100 km...so first time it took 11.40 litre/ 100 km and second time was 10.35 litre/100 km ...so like u can see I Can say that it takes somewhere in 11 litres/100 km...= 18 euros per 100 km
I do not know how some peoples can go with 7-8 litres per 100 km...

Hello Costel. Those figures you quote equate to 24 and 27mpg, which I have to say is pretty poor. 27mpg may be OK for stop start city driving in heavy traffic, but for anything else it`s crap. In fact I`d say there`s a problem with your car, either that or you must be driving everywhere in 3rd gear !

Yes. I used to write the trip mileage down on the till receipt whenever I filled up but now I take a pic of the display so I get total miles, trip miles and avg mpg. The 41.9 was calculated from the amount of fuel put in and the miles travelled since last refuel. That's an atypical week though. I'm usually averaging 36mpg as my daily commute is about 18.5 miles each way with a 10 mile stretch on the M-way.

I think I'll change my spreadsheet so that I'll have a column for the avg mpg on the display to compare with the calculated mpg :)
