Remote Central Locking - Fiesta

Trust me Mihai when I say I very much understand the workings of the Ford key and the PATS system.

Just need to make you aware that if your vehicle is European 2015 specification then the ability for you to programme in a new key (remote or standard) to the immobiliser is not available to do yourself.

I was referring to the PATS transponder chip which you have shown above in your photo. These are a passive device with a unique transponder number that can never be changed or reprogrammed by anyone including the Ford manufacturing company. It is always the car that is programmed to accept/recognise the number of the PATS transponder. Due to changes with security on Ford vehicles built 2013 onwards the ability for owners to be able to add new transponder codes to the vehicle was removed by Ford. [recently there has been a slight change in that information with a few vehicles built after 2013 now being able to have new transponder codes added using FORScan]

When you said that you had programmed your new key using the two key system it gave me the impression that you were meaning not just the remote buttons, but also the transponder chip. Hence my reason for saying that I suspect we were not understanding each other.

Removing the transponder chip from a broken key and fitting in to a new key is of course a perfectly viable option and will work.

Hi,

I’ve come to the same issue you have. Didn’t realise studios didn’t already have remote central locking, paid a guy to come out to cut and program the key to the car and after 2 hours of trying he gave up. After reading this and going to a ford dealership they have told me my car doesn’t have remote central locking and they wouldn’t fit it as it’d be too much labour and the cost would be extortionate. I have a 2012 fiesta and thus I don’t know if the forscan method would work as someone mentioned it was 2013+. However if it would could you let me know or if not can anyone send me a UK link to a receiver I can pay an electrician to fit to the car.

I think it very unlikely to work on your model. The Body Control Module (BCM) most probably will not support RKE and so it would need upgraded.

Your best option if you are set on having remote lock/unlock is to buy and fit an aftermarket kit. For example there is one available on Amazon which would work with your car (provided that you have basic central locking).

I can't tell you exactly but the RKE antennae may be integral with the BCM, if it is, it's then possible to change the BCM to a Zetec one and then reconfigure to your car spec

You'll need to do a lot of research on the FORScan forums though of how to do the programming and configuration because you will have a lot of conflicts

But it may also be there already and just deactivated.

Get yourself set up on FORScan with the V-Linker or OBDLink-EX cable and see if it works when you activate it in the BCM, you'll still need to program the remote to the BCM
