To flush or not to flush. That is the question.

hi, I have just bought a 2007 fiesta and it needs a oil change. There's traces of sludge in rocker top but I'm unsure if that's just moisture or a head gasket problem. Should I flush before replacing the oil and filter or just leave it? any help appreciated.
