Newbie...with A Problem!

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls, recently bought a 2005 mondeo estate and its come with a problem.

I've read about issues with the bonnet locking and unlocking, but mine is more basic

The bonnet catch won't lock shut.

So basically it secures on the first catch (which releases when you turn the key right) but the locking bit which should stay when you turn left doesn't stay locked.

Bit worrying watching the bonnet bouncing up and down!

Hope it's a simple fix, it looks like a right birch to get the mechanism out.

Dan

Check that the the part of the catch that is on the bonnet is secure, I spent hours trying to sort this turned out dead simple to fix with an extra washer, somehow the latch had started to move about

Thanks but it's definitely the lock itself, I shut it with a screwdriver and it didn't lock in place.

Dan

I would recommend that you take it off of the car, take it to bits and apply liberal amounts of grease in the appropriate places! That should solve the problem!

When taking apart, be careful of springs flying off!

Yeah I feared that would be the best bet.

From what I've read it's near impossible to remove as the bolt heads are purposefully sheared for security.

Dan

Really?! When i took it off on my jag x type, and also on a focus st, it was just normal bolts!

Just normal bolts
