Egr Valve Blanking

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a "how to" guide for blanking the EGR valve ?? I have mk3 mondeo 2.2 tdci. The EGR valve itself is at the front left of engine bay.

Cheers

Or just explain what needs to be done lol

This is the easiest but most effective mod ever!

The silver pipe that runs to the egr valve (as you look at the egr valve from the front of the car, this will be on the right hand side) you need to loosen this off by undoing the two nuts! Once they are loose, you can slip the blanking plate in between the pipe and valve! Do the nuts up again, and hey presto!

Ok that was a lot easier then I thought, cheers for that :-) ill knock up a temp one at work and fit before the journey home :-) this is gona make my day drag now lol

You will get your engine management light come on, just be careful because once its on, you wont know if there are any other issues!

It will eventually go out, but can take a good few miles

Is it worth running it home, scanning it and reseting eml if there no other issues ??

I would, but the light will come back on after a short drive! Just keep an eye on it, scan it once a week but dont reset it!

Make sure your temporary blank is 2-3mm steel & not aluminium or it could melt ! :)

Made up one lunch time and fitted quick. I guessed the spacing of the slots well lol, its not pretty but it'll do for now. It was 3mm steel aswell.

Ok that's quite a noticeable improvement :-) happy with that. Does this mod increase torque or just make better use of what has originally ?? If it's an increase can anyone put a rough figure on what it is ?? The car is a mk3 2.2 also the eml did not come on or hasn't yet ??

I dont know about an increase in torque, but it has more grunt at low revs!

The eml will come on, it can take a while! I believe the fault code will be p0402!

Your E.G.R.V. is likely to be Euro 4 ( electrically operated ) & is likely to illuminate the E.M.L. sooner or later.

Cheers for the replies. The fault code is handy as I can ignore that one when it comes to scanning. Is the mod likely tho throw up any other related issues/codes ??
