2.0 Tdci Hesitation On Startup

Featured Replies

I notice that initially when i start my Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 140 in the mornings the engine sounds very chuggy for the first minute or two, almost as if it's going to cut out but it doesn't.

When I then drive there can also be a small hesitation for the first few seconds when accelerating but these symptoms seem to disappear after driving for a minute.

When the car is warmed up I can't say I really notice this issue.

I've looked at the instrument cluster thinking that maybe its a dirty maf sensor but the rev needle doesn't seem to move during this chugging and remains just under 1000rpm, roughly 900 where I presume it should be.

It's not a massive problem as the car doesn't conk and after driving a minute as i said seems to drive quite well but I'm wondering what this could be and if it is the sign of something worse to develop.

The car has 119,000 miles and had a full service and timing belt and water pump changed just under two months ago.

Thanks
