Battery Light, Poor Powersteering And Noises

Featured Replies

Hello recently bought a mondeo so I'm new here :)

04 plate mondeo zetec tdci 2.0 115

The car has always been noisey when steering close to full lock but has recently got a lot louder needing a lot more force to steer but still working

This has come about since hearing a jet take off like noise coming from the engine bay that intermittently happens when the engine is revving over 2500rpm. If I turn off the engine the noise completely goes on starting the engine again.

I think noise is coming from the alternator and when it making the noise there's a faint smell of burning plastic

The battery hasn't died and the car hasn't cut out althought the battery light is on any suggestions would be a great help as it stands I'm probably going to replace the alternator

Bump

sounds like the serpintine belt could be slipping have you checked it for tightness.

Yeah it seems tight enough and in good condition

Heavy steering to me says the system isn't getting enough power.

I'd look at the battery and alternator for sure.

Since getting the battery light I've done around 10 short journeys of a couple of miles and the battery hasn't died and it starts fine like normal

Check for split hoses and turbo pipe splits as well, that tends to be the woosh noise you refer to.

Update it was the alternator unfortunately didn't solve the noisey steering :(
