Mondeo Mk4 Headlight Afs Or Xenon

Featured Replies

As my Mondeo has the standard halogen reflector headlamps, I was looking to upgrade to the headlamps with halogen projectors that come with the AFS halogen system as I think they look far better and should have a better beam pattern.

I came across a set on ebay but I wasn't sure whether they were the halogen projector headlights or the xenon headlights. I emailed the seller who doesn't seem to know either.

I know if they are the xenon's they will be no use to me as I don't have auto levelling or headlamp washers but if they are the halogens I know they will be a straight forward swap and will work (except for the AFS function).

What I'm wondering is if there is a way to differentiate between the two from just looking at photos or the headlamps?

Here is a link to the add on ebay if anyone can figure out from the pictures: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/171779044710?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Thanks

I think they look like the AFS headlights

Though they do look very much like my xenons

Looking at the lens I reckon they go side to side apposed to up and down

I agree with you mate, the projector lens looks more like it moves to the side as opposed to up or down.

Looking at the photos again and particularly the one of the back of the headlights though I thought the cable with the red on it look like one that would be used to connect up to a ballast which would mean they are xenons but I'm not so sure anymore ha

Went out to my mondy n had one of my xenon headlights out

Took a few photos to try n compare

I do reckon the lens on the ebay listing looks different to mine

And looking where the dipped beam bulb goes it looks like it has the wire clips to hold a standard bulb in

Compare it to mine

Also my headlights have 'hid' stamped on them, see photo, may be worth asking seller if his say hid on them or not

Cheers Brigante, thanks for the photos mate.

Yeah there does seem to be a slight difference between your headlights and the ones on ebay. Again I sent the seller a message tonight and he replied saying he thinks there is a 2 pin plug for a h7 bulb so that would pretty much confirm they are the halogen versions. Think it might be safe enough to bid on them now :)

Yup I personally think you are safe to bid on them

The headlights are very near identical to the xenons but even saying that, the second I looked at the ebay listing I instinctively thought they was AFS. Can tell by the lens, the housing around the lens appears wider, as if theres extra room at the sides for the lens to move side to side making the lens appear generally larger n rounder compared to the xenon

The fitment at the back definitely looks like it'll take a stand h7 bulb and I didn't think the wiring at the back of the ebay listing photos looked like the wiring anywhere at the back of my headlights

Yeah in comparison to your photo's the ebay listing doesn't look the same as yours and is definitely different at the back.

I don't like reflector type headlamps at all I think they look crap so projector style ones should really upgrade the front of the car and improve the lighting, even though the standard headlamps aren't bad.

Thanks again for your help mate
