Rear Veiw Camera

Featured Replies

I drive a Titanium on 59 reg brought second hand, the original buyer did not tick the box for parking sensors. my query is do Ford do an interior mirror that has a camera feed to so that when you select revers the mirror shows a 2 inch screen (my dads Hyundai has got this with auto dim) I have got the auto dimming mirror so power feed at site ready (could get from interior light if req). If Ford do can you retro fit to my spec in place of existing mirror,

I do not want a screen sitting on my dash and i am very happy with the sound that i get from the Sony DAB unit, or can i get a screen that will fit in the glasses holder that is in the head lining by interior light.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know ford dont do a camera screen built into a mirror. If they do I'd have bought one.

The only option if you want the mirror to have a screen is to buy an aftermarket one that simply clips over the existing mirror. there are mirrors available that replace existing mirror but none that i can find that have the correct mounting point/bracket that the factory auto dimming mirror has

Funny you mention the sunglasses holder though as its not long sinse i done exactly that.

The sunglasses holder needed modifying a bit with a junior hacksaw but the end result is it works extremely well

Have a look in the build thread section for my new one for my mondeo

I have just checked out your camera thread, looks good and i was thinking the same as if got an accessory screen on show some little sh*# might put window in. Can i ask did you take out the holder or cut in place, if you took out how easy to get back with spring.

Oh thanks for stating that you fitted the 4.3 in screen as i was worried that it would not fit and would have to go 3.5 in.

Once again thanks for the heads up to your thread.

Yup exactly what I thought. If I used one of the many stand alone monitors that stick on the dash I thought it wouldnt be long before some lil toe ragg smashed me window thinking it was a satnav, only to be disapointed it turns out to be a cheapo 10quid monitor and key my car cause of it.

Is always the option to remove the screen but it would be a faff everytime you get in/out the and it would mean havinh visible wires left on display looking messy. So I had to come up with a way of hiding it away but at same time be easy to access. Sunglasses holder seemed the best and easiest option.

I iust cut it in situe mate. Was quite a faff sitting there cutting at it above me head and the centre console got quite messy from the falling debris but I decided that it would be more of a faff to remove the holder as if I removed just the rotatey bit I'd struggle to get it back in because of the spring like you say.

And if I was to remove the whole unit completely which I'd of liked to do it would have been really awkard to remove it without removing the entire liner.

So I deemed cutting it in place the best option. Easy enough to do just got to persevere.

first I took hacksaw down the edges high up as I could, then I cut diagonally to the middle and gentley bent it back and forth to make a crease and cut along it.

Kept trimming bit by bit.

With the monitor size I'd say you probably could even fit a 5 inch if you want but there is more bulk to it and would need to cut a bit of the casing off at the back due to the wire

What I actually did was get one of those pop up monitors. Where you push a button and the screen pops out the base.

Got one of them as the curcuit board isnt in the monitor but in the base. I detached the monitor from the base so the only thing holding them together is the flat plasic video thing. I stuck the monitor to the rotatey bit and stuck the base to the roof of the car with sticky pads.

When I get back from work tomorrow I can try take some photos to explain it better
